SIMATIC/SIMOTION Library LCamHdl – Creation of cam disks at runtime

The application supports the user in creating cam disks at runtime.

Motion sequences in modern production machines are realized with electronic cam disks instead of former mechanical cam disks. Advantages are optimization possibilities regarding jerk-free movements, maximum acceleration, reduced vibrations, reduced wear and reduced downtime when changing formats. The creation as well as the modification of the cam disk should also be possible during normal operation of the machine to adapt to the current product. This shall be as simple and performant as possible. 


The LCamHdl library for SIMATIC and SIMOTION provides function blocks that support the user in creating high-quality and jerk-free cam disks compliant to VDI guideline 2143. The necessary calculations of the segments of different profile types especially of polynomial coefficients and standardizations are done by the function blocks.

In addition a more handsome "basic" function block exists for SIMATIC. The cam disk can be defined as a set of points and related dynamic values. The function block calculates the appropriate segments with 5th degree polynomials. Thus it is easy to handle the most commonly used cam profiles at production machines.

The function blocks can be called in every programming language in the user program, e.g. ST/SCL or LAD/FBD. For SIMATIC users an HMI is provided in the example project. With this HMI the “at runtime” created cam disks can be read and visualized.
