Firmware update for all S7-1500 CPUs incl. Displays and ET 200 CPUs (ET 200SP, ET 200pro) - Latest change: new firmware version V2.9.3 for MFP CPUs

Description:

When firmware is updated, it must always be updated to the latest version available for the relevant article number. The previous versions of the firmware are only intended as a backup to enable you to downgrade to the original version, although this has never been known to be necessary.
The latest version of firmware in each case is valid for all revision levels of this article number.

A detailed description of performing the firmware update is provided in the entry 77492231.
Regarding the R/H CPUs, the firmware update procedure differs from the standard in so far as both CPUs must be updated with a specific operating sequence. The operating sequence is described in the System Manual S7-1500R/H, Chapter 11.4 "Firmware Update" S7-1500 Redundantes System S7-1500R/H

Update V2.9.3 for CPU 1518-4(F) PN/DP MFP

Dependencies with regard to STEP 7, STEP 7 Safety Advanced and upwards compatibility:
Totally Integrated Automation Portal with STEP 7 Professional V17 or higher is required to configure this CPU firmware version.

New hardware and configuration limits:
  • CPU 1518HF-4 PN (6ES7518-4JP00-0AB0), the new innovative SIMATIC S7-1500H CPU with integrated fail-safety – predestined for applications placing superior requirements on both availability and fail-safety.
  • CPU 1518T/TF-4 PN/DP, the high-end S7-1500 technology controller for standard technology and fail-safe applications with very high requirements on program size and networking and for superior requirements regarding processing speed.
    The CPU with its configuration limit of up to 192 positioning axes is suitable for demanding motion control applications.
    For distributed configuration via PROFINET IO and PROFIBUS DP with PROFIsafe.
    The additional, integrated PROFINET interface with a separate IP address can be used as I-device for, among other things, network separation, connecting additional PROFINET IO RT devices or fast communication.
    With the third PROFINET interface with a separate IP address and Gbit Ethernet, among other things, network separation or coupling via Gbit Ethernet to a higher-level network can be achieved.
    The current configuration limit of the respective CPU is documented in the technical specifications.
  • CPU 1518 and derivatives with an extended memory configuration limit:
    The work memory of the CPUs 1518 and its derivatives (incl. CPU 1518HF) is being extended significantly.

  • For the CPUs 1517 and 1518, the number of UDP multicast circuits has been extended.
    The current configuration limit of the respective controller is documented in the technical specifications.
  • For the controllers CPU 1510SP to CPU 1513 (including CPU 1513R) and CPU 1515 (including CPU 1515R), the configuration limit regarding the number of blocks (and UDTs) has been increased.
    The current configuration limits are documented in the technical specifications of the respective CPU.


New functions with firmware V2.9 for all S7-1500 and ET 200 CPUs:
  • Support of MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol) -Interconnect
    The function is integrated into the firmware and enables the coupling of multiple MRP rings (up to 11 rings), thus opening up the possibility of operating more nodes in MRP rings.


New functions with firmware V2.9 for S7-1500 and ET 200 CPUs (without R/H CPUs):
  • OPC UA Alarms & Conditions:
    The function OPC UA Alarms & Conditions makes it possible to transmit alarms including their associated values to OPC UA clients. Alarms that require acknowledgment can be acknowledged by the OPC UA client in the process.
    This function is enabled in the TIA Portal via the settings in the CPU properties.
  • For modeling of the OPC UA server interfaces for S7-1500 and ET 200 CPUs, objects and folders can now also be created or added as OPC UA element using a drag-and-drop operation. 
  • Specifications can be imported as reference in the OPC UA server interface. These specifications can be used as basis for mapping data types of a OPC UA reference namespace to an FB or UDT. With each new instance, the new nodes are automatically created in the previously defined OPC UA server interface.
  • The handling of the CPU as OPC UA client is made easier. With TIA Portal V17 only three blocks are necessary (instead of 12 blocks): Read, Write and Method call. 
  • The S7-1500 and ET 200 CPUs support the handling of OPC UA certificates via GDS (Global Discovery Service).  For the certificate update, you can use either the TIA Portal or a separate GSD server. Commissioning can be performed without a certificate already being installed on the CPU.
  • The data types "LocalizedText" and "ByteString" that are mainly used for Companion specifications are now also supported by the OPC UA server of the S7-1500 and ET 200 CPUs.
  • Perfecting the DNS (Domain Name System) functionality for OPC UA / OUC and in the web server
    • The feedback messages of the OPC UA server with the "Application Name" can now be made using the DNS.
    • The NTP client of the CPU can address its relevant NTP servers using the DNS. This makes it possible for clients to address a pool of NTP servers, for example.
    • The web server can continuously be reached via DNS addressing.
    • DNS is taken into account during certificate handling.  
  • Support of DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
    The DHCP communication protocol enables the CPU to assign the network configuration using a DHCP server. The CPU uses its client ID for identification on the DHCP server. The following parameters can be obtained:
    • IP Suite
    • DNS server
    • NTP server
The CPU can also signal its host name to the DHCP server.
  • With the introduction of DHCP, NTP servers can also be obtained via DHCP. The configuration has changed compared to previous versions. It must be specified in the configuration from where the NTP server(s) obtain their configuration:
    • using the configuration in the hardware properties of the CPU
    • via DHCP
    • via the T_CONFIG block*
      • Compared to previous firmware versions, in addition to using the T_CONFIG block, it must now be specified that the NTP servers obtain their configuration via this block when upgrading the hardware to firmware V2.9.
  • Deactivate / activate the iDevice in the user program:
    It is possible to deactivate or activate the iDevice configuration with the "D_ACT_DP" instruction in the user program of the iDevice CPU. After deactivating the iDevice function, no error is displayed on the iDevice CPU when the IO controller is not available.
  • With MODBUS TCP, the newly supported mode 23 enables users to read and write data within a job.
  • For programmed connections, the behavior when terminating TCP connections can be set individually (RST/FIN behavior) using the new "TCON_Settings" block. In addition, the TTL (Time-to-Live) of UDP multicast frames can be configured so that communication is possible via IP routers. 
  • PROFINET device name:
    The topology-based assignment of device names is being extended so that PROFINET devices are renamed even when they already have a device name.
    A PROFINET device is also renamed when the device name is already being used by another device on the controller that is deactivated at this time.
    This is mainly used for mobile devices, such as automatic guided vehicles (AGVs).
  • The display on the CPU web server is being extended to include information on "Program resource consumption" so that the user program can be changed accordingly when the available memory is not sufficient.
  • User-defined web pages can be created for the SIMATIC S7-1500 and the ET 200 CPUs via WinCC Unified. This does not require special know-how regarding the creation of HTML pages; the web pages can be created as a screen in the WinCC Unified editor and then downloaded to the controller.
  • User-defined web pages that were created with a random HTML editing tool can be downloaded to the S7-1500 or ET 200 CPU as HTML files directly via the new WEB API without having to use the TIA Portal. The pages are displayed via an HTTPS endpoint in the CPU. 
  • Connection and configuration of linear motors for linear axes
  • Automatic backlash compensation at the axis technology object for compensation of the mechanical backlash.
  • Automatic controller optimization with import of the controller parameters from SINAMICS Startdrive (One Button Tuning of the drive).
  • Support of drive optimization through Bode diagram in the trace.


New functions with firmware V2.9 for S7-1500R/H CPUs:
  • Extension of the options with the RH_CTRL instruction: The roles between primary CPU and backup CPU can be swapped and a new SYNCUP can be triggered.
  • The recipe functions (RecipeImport, RecipeExport) can now also be used in S7-1500R/H CPUs.
  • A redundancy loss in the sync cable is now signaled in S7-1500H via an OB72 call.
  • The changeover times for non-redundant PROFINET devices (switched S1 mode) have been significantly reduced.


New functions with firmware V2.9 for S7-1500T(F) CPUs:
  • Synchronous operation functions
    • Leading-value-coupled correction profiles on the following axis (MC_PhasingAbsolute, MC_PhasingRelative, MC_OffsetAbsolute, MC_OffsetRelative) for gearing or camming
    • Introduction or scaling of a cam disk at the end of an active cam disk
    • Targeted desynchronization of synchronous operation and camming to position (MC_GearOut, MC_CamOut)
    • New cam disk type (10.000 breakpoints and 50 polynomial segments) 
    • The cam editor has been extended to include new diagnostic options that allow for the display of detailed information and comparisons down to the element level in online and offline mode.

  • Kinematics functions
    • Controlling kinematics with up to 4 interpolating axes including synchronization to moving belts
    • New instruction "MC_KinematicsMotionSimulation" to activate and deactivate the simulation mode of the TO Kinematics
    • The traveled distance and the total travel of path movements (linear, circular) without conveyor tracking are displayed in variables. 
    • In the kinematics control panel, the "Dynamic adaptation without segmentation of the path" in the "Jog on target position" mode is active and the dynamic limits of the kinematics axes are taken into account.
    • Offline and online calibration of work zones in the TIA Portal
    • Configuration of rounding clearances greater than 50% of the shorter distance
    • The number of prepared jobs in the job chain is displayed in a variable.


Enhancement of the user experience:

The following behavior has been improved:
  • When "isochronous mode" is activated for random modules in the central configuration behind a CPU, direct access to the digital inputs always returns correct values.
  • The undocumented error code 807F is no longer displayed for the instruction "DataLogOpen".
  • In case of changes to recipe data, the results are displayed correctly after export to the CSV file. 
  • A reset of the TONR instruction works even when a falling edge is present at the IN input.
  • The behavior of the MOVE_BLK instruction when copying large amounts of data between overlapping areas has been improved.
  • When monitoring tags at the instruction TON_TIME, the values are displayed correctly.
  • The download behavior for changes of large blocks has been improved.
  • The behavior during POWER off / POWER on of ET 200SP CPUs while a trace job is in progress has been improved.
  • The alarm sequence was displayed correctly for display of alarm tables on user-defined web pages.
  • The tags with a user-defined data type are displayed correctly on the web server.
  • The performance when writing structured tags and simultaneous monitoring via the OPC UA server has been improved.
  • The OPC UA server displays incorrect information in the ServerProfileArray.
    The "StandardUA" profile is no longer part of the Arrays profile. It has been changed to "EmbeddedUA2017". Moreover, the profiles "Methods" and "ComplexTypes2017" have been added.
  • OPC UA: ArrayDimension of tags with ValueRank 0 was not returned as -1 (zero). This resulted in problems in the PLC UA client.
    In the future, the ArrayDimension is only read out for the ValueRank values 0, -1, -2, -3. This means the problem can no longer occur.
  • When an OPC UA client sent a CancelRequest as a reply to a Publish Request, the OPC UA server returned an incorrect RequestHandle to the response with a service fault.
    The new server behavior is that the canceled request is answered with a service fault and that the CancelRequest is acknowledged with a CancelResponse.
  • The diagnostic buffer entries have been extended to make it easier to analyze MC-Interpolator overflows.
  • The behavior when triggering incorrectly connected (reverse polarity) hardware limit switches has been improved.
  • When deactivating an axis with MC_Power = FALSE or MC_Stop and an MC_GearInPos job waiting at the same time, the canceled processing is now displayed with CommandAborted = TRUE (instead of Error).
  • The behavior with Vector drives on SINAMICS Integrated of the SIMATIC drive controller has been improved.
  • During synchronization at standstill with MC_GearIn, the alarm 501 (speed limited) no longer occurs.
  • The alarm 112 with associated value 5 "No incremental encoder configured" is no longer output when an incremental encoder is configured at the TO and an absolute encoder in the drive.
  • The behavior of the display of position values during switching to a higher resolution has been improved.
  • The automatic import of drive and encoder values during runtime with download of software changes has been improved.
  • The execution of MC_TrackConveyorBelt with blocked kinematics axes now results in Error = True and Done = False at the block output.
  • The dynamic adaptation of the TO Kinematics has been improved - the possible dynamic range is used more effectively and setpoint jumps of the path acceleration are avoided.


The following behavior has been corrected:
  • The temporary message "Insufficient work memory" no longer occurs in the spare part case.
  • When terminating connections to the web server of the CPU, these sporadic error messages no longer occur: 
    • Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (internal system code: 16#00080002 16#10020011 16#77EF6EAC) CPU switching to DEFECTIVE mode (system reaction)" or
    • Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (internal system code: 16#00080002 16#1002007B 16#78148280) CPU switching to DEFECTIVE mode (system reaction)".
  • Parallel access to user data (e.g. Motion TOs) via OPC UA and user-defined web pages has been improved. 
  • For some configurations with the ET 200SP CPU, OB1 cycle times could increase by up to 20 ms. This is no longer the case.
  • In case of an overflow of the OB MC-Interpolator, the CPU switches to DEFECTIVE mode after project download.
  • The cause of the error "Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (internal system code: 16#04440000 16#10020000 16#00000000) CPU switching to DEFECTIVE mode (system reaction)" has been remedied. The behavior at high system utilization has been improved.
  • The use of the technology object cam track and activated hysteresis results in unexpected switching states.
  • When using "MC_LeadingValueAdditive", unexpected axis motions no longer occur.
  • The incorrect alarm 101 no longer occurs when configuring an absolute linear encoder.
  • The alarm 502 "The programmed acceleration/deceleration is limited" is no longer output when the dynamic limits are observed.
  • A following error is no longer output with disabled positioning monitoring when the axis is moved and the torque limits are defined with MC_TorqueRange. 
  • The status <TO>.StatusWord.X17 (HWLimitMinActive) or <TO>.StatusWord.X18 (HWLimitMaxActive) is output correctly after a restart of the technology object with approached hardware limit switch and subsequent exiting of the limit switch.
  • The feedback message of the fixed stop detection MC_TorqueLimiting.InClamping after cancellation of the following error is now output correctly.
  • The cause of the error "Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (internal system code: 16#00400001 16#1002009F 16#79BC9768) CPU switching to DEFECTIVE mode (system reaction)" has been remedied.
  • Incorrect following error monitoring was removed for technology objects switched in simulation.
  • It is now possible to continue the kinematics motion with MC_GroupContinue after interruption of the kinematics motion with MC_GroupInterrupt for very short residual distances of the interrupted motion command.
  • MC_SetOCSFrame now reaches Done = True even with an override set to 0.
  • The technology alarm 802 no longer occurs for commands in the WCS with activated dynamic adaptation that were entered in the job chain after commands that belong to a phase of the conveyor tracking.
  • A jump of the set position of the orientation axis no longer occurs when continuing an interrupted synchronous "point-to-point" motion in the MCS.
  • Only the programmed position is approached when continuing a synchronous "point-to-point" motion in the MCS.


Update V2.8.4 for CPU 1518-4(F) PN/DP MFP

The Firmware V2.8.4 for the CPU 1518(F)-4 PN/DP MFP comprises the new functions of FW 2.8. for SIMATIC  S7-1500 CPUs.

Enhancement of the user experience:

The following behavior has been improved:

  • The sporadic behavior that, in case of a TC connection which is aborted by the remote station, the CPU loses the data sent by the remote station, does no longer occur.  (The different RST/FIN behavior shown with TCP connections has been adjusted here.)
  • As documented in the manual, the master value for the cross-CPU Motion Control axis control  can now be provided by all SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs.

The following behavior was corrected:

  • It does no longer occur that, after power off/on, the CPU goes to STOP with the message  "Warning regarding remanent data: Remanent data lost - Current CUP operating state: STOP (initialization)", and data being marked as remanent get lost if more than 1020 data block data are declared as remanent.
  • The following message is no longer output sporadically: "Severe firmware exception error (internal system code: 16#00000000 16#10020000 16#00000000) CPU changes to the DEFECTIVE STATE (system reaction)“ if - in case of an adjustment of the initial values of a DB without structural change of the content, or in case of changes to the CPU message list and subsequent download - the connection has been aborted in combination with Motion and F-applicatio3s.
  • The following message is no longer output sporadically: "Severe firmware exception error (internal system code: 16#00400001 16#10020082 16#77A2A4D4) CPU goes into the DEFECTIVE state (system reaction)“ when the OPC UA Client does not behave in accordance with the OPC UA specification upon the termination of subscriptions.
  • The following message is no longer output sporadically: "Severe firmware exception error (internal system code: 16#00400001 16#1002003A 16#00010246) CPU goes into the DEFECTIVE state (system reaction)“ when the OPC UA Client on the S7-1500 CPU tries to read a variable which has not been created in accordance with the OPC UA specification as instance of an abstract data type on the OPC UA Server.

For S7-1500 T CPUs only:

  • With an interpolated linear movement, the command is always terminated as soon as the target is reached.


Update V2.8.2 CPUs

Dependencies with regard to STEP 7, STEP 7 Safety Advanced and upwards compatibility:

Enhancement of the user experience:

The following behavior has been improved:

  • The addressing options for structures have been expanded for the blocks PUT and USEND; in addition to CHAR, the data types BYTE, WORD, INT, DWORD, DINT or REAL can be used at ADDR_i.
  • Improved performance when using Flexible F-Link and simultaneous communication via Secure Open User Communication (OUC).

The following behavior was corrected:

  • Blocks that are used in combination with UDTs to move data (Move Operations) are no longer interrupted with the sporadic message "Internal system error (error code: 0XC000AF0D00002003) – Please contact SIMATIC Customer Support"  during compilation in the TIA Portal.
  • For S7-1500R/H CPUs, the correct time stamp is included when data is exchanged between WinCC OA and the PLC.
  • Process tags of the type "Array of STRING" are displayed correctly in user-defined web pages on the web server of the CPU.

For S7-1500 T CPUs only: 

  • It is now possible to use the motion control instruction "MC_TrackConveyorBelt"
  • When activating gearing or curve synchronization, the error 16#8076 no longer occurs when the command MC_SynchronizedMotionSimulation was terminated with the error 16#8075 beforehand.

  • Direct exchange of data via PROFINET IRT ensures quick, isochronous data transfer among several S7-1500 CPUs or ET 200 CPUs.
  • IP forwarding for CPUs with more than one interface, that is, IP telegrams are forwarded from an integrated PROFINET interface of the CPU to another integrated PROFINET interface, for example, for
    • IP-based communication to lower-level devices for diagnostics and commissioning, for example, via the S7-PCT tool or SIMATIC PDM
    • With S7-1500 CPUs, this function can also be combined with the IP accessibility via the CP 1543-1 communication module so that the OPC UA server of the CPU, for example, can also be reached via the CP 1543-1 or the CPU as OPC UA client can send data via CP 1543-1.
  • The OPC UA server on the CPU only restarts if OPC UA-relevant data has been changed during the download from the TIA Portal.
  • The diagnostic options for the OPC UA server have been improved, for example, by listing the OPC UA connection resources separately. In the event of a surge of diagnostic messages relating to OPC UA, they can be combined and only appear once in the diagnostic buffer.
  • With JSON RPC2.0, the Web server of the controller offers a web-compliant, modern data format for accessing data such as process values (variable values) or status and diagnostic data of the CPU for easy coupling of the controller to web data consumers, for example, MES systems or SCADA systems.
  • The web server of the CPU provides graphical runtime information that makes it possible to react to CPU STOPs due to an excessively high program or communication load during commissioning or CPU runtime.
  • The "Project trace" function in the TIA Portal is supported, allowing for the diagnostics of system states across devices using the trace function (e.g. via the combination of traces from several devices).
  • For motion control applications, the hardware limit switches can now be activated and deactivated during operation without "TO Restart".
  • If required, the setpoints and actual values of the axes can now be calculated with six decimal places.
  • Station width of 1.2 m for ET 200pro CPUs 1513pro (F)-2 PN and 1516pro (F)-2 PN
  • Ambient temperature during operation extended to -25°C to +60°C for CPUs 1510 to 1516 for standard, fail-safe and compact.
    Details are provided in the technical specifications of the respective CPUs.
    As before, the ambient temperature of -25°C to +55°C during operation also applies to the ET 200pro CPUs.

New and improved programming instructions with firmware V2.8:

  • The new "File Delete" instruction can be used to delete existing files on the SIMATIC memory card.
  • The existing "TMAIL_C" instruction has been extended so that data logs, recipes and user files located on the SIMATIC memory card can be sent as an e-mail attachment via an interface of the automation system.
  • The performance for the instructions: "Serialize", "Deserialize" and "CMP" (comparator) was improved.
  • The "SET_TIMEZONE" block now works (in version V2.0) edge-controlled – as in the S7-1200.
  • A new "MC-PreIPO" organization block is available for programming application programs that are called synchronously with the motion control clock.

New features with firmware V2.8 for S7-1500T(F) CPUs:

  • The S7-1500 T(F) CPUs support master values and synchronous axes on different controllers, so that different servo/interpolator clocks can be used.
    This makes it possible to divide a high number of axes into different CPUs, for example, to implement a modular machine design. Coupling via PROFINET IO with IRT is required for this functionality.
  • The S7-1500 T(F) CPUs now support succeeding synchronization over master value length.

New features with firmware V2.8 for S7-1500R/H CPUs:

  • IP forwarding for CPUs with more than one interface, that is, IP telegrams are forwarded from an integrated PROFINET interface of the CPU to another integrated PROFINET interface, for example, for IP-based communication to lower-level devices for diagnostics and commissioning, such as via the S7-PCT tool or SIMATIC PDM.

  • You can now also load and change programs in the Run-Redundant system state. The backup CPU no longer has to be switched to STOP. However, changes to the hardware configuration can still only be made in the STOP state of the R/H system.
  • PROFINET devices without system redundancy can also be used as devices on an S7-1500R/H CPU.
  • The STEP 7 Graph programming language is supported, which enables graphical creation of sequence control systems and sequential procedures on the S7-1500R/H CPUs.
  • Programming of user messages and messages via ProDiag is supported, which means monitoring messages can be programmed or configured on the S7-1500R/H CPUs to detect possible system malfunctions in advance.
  • Technological instructions, such as "PID_Compact", "PID_3Step" and "PID_Temp", for the implementation of control tasks are supported.
  • Extended instructions such as "GETIO / GETIO_PART" for reading the process image and "SETIO / SETIO_PART" for writing the process image are supported.
  • Information on the IO system or on the status of the module can be determined via the "GetStationInfo", "DeviceStates" instructions. The "GEN_DIAG" instruction makes it possible to generate diagnostic information via the user program.


Enhancement of the user experience:

The following behavior has been improved:

  • If a hardware configuration is downloaded in which the IP address of the CPU is not set directly via the project, the web server of the CPU can still be reached after the download.
  • A RUN/STOP transition at the CPU is no longer required if the "80C3" status code is present at the "TSEND" block because several connections are used via an instance of the "TSEND" block.
  • New messages are no longer sporadically sent to connected alarm clients after a delta download.
  • If a PROFIBUS DP slave is integrated via GSD file and this DP slave only supports "bit-grouped" diagnostic entries, the display of the pending errors is correct even if two or more errors occur simultaneously (this means more than one error is reported within a diagnostic message frame).
  • If additional server interfaces or companion specs are loaded on the OPC UA server, a deletion process of these interfaces has the desired behavior, namely that the additional OPC UA nodes are also no longer available in the address space.
  • Another server interface/companion spec normally also contains mapping of the OPC UA nodes to CPU data (data blocks, tags, etc.). OPC UA nodes can now be read with the subscription service, even if no mapping to PLC data is configured.


The following behavior was corrected:

  • It is no longer necessary for the start values of the DB to be displayed on a connected HMI system for one cycle, if a download has occurred without re-initialization, for example, by changing a comment in the data block.
  • The online value is no longer sporadically displayed incorrectly in the STL programming language when monitoring complex blocks.
  • The message "the value addressed by the access is outside or not completely within the permitted range (CPU-specific variable or size of the data block)" is no longer displayed if a function block is called in an FC with the number "FC 0" which uses the "GetInstanceName" instruction.
  • A user-defined start page on the web server of the CPU is also displayed correctly if a link is made to a pre-defined CPU web page on this user-defined start page.
  • There is no longer a sporadic STOP of the CPU with the code 75D1 when diagnostic information is present at a connected ASi master.
  • CPUs with more than one PROFINET interface no longer receive the message "Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (internal system code: 16#00400001 16#1002012E 16#00010206) CPU changes to DEFECTIVE mode (system reaction)" when an incorrect hardware configuration (overlapping IP subnets of the X1 and X2 interfaces) is loaded into the CPU from the TIA Portal.
  • When switching from STOP -> RUN, the following sporadic message no longer appears: "Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (internal system code 16#00400001 16#10020010 16#00010246) CPU changes to "DEFECTIVE state (system reaction)" if the "D_ACT_DP" system function is used during startup to activate switched-off PROFINET IO devices with complex lower-level IO systems (for example, ASi master or IE/PB link).
  • The sporadic message "Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (internal system code 16#00000801 16#10028001 16#00008003) CPU changes to "DEFECTIVE state (system response)" when using multiple different communication types with encrypted connections in the CPU.
  • The sporadic message "Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (internal system code 16#00400001 16#10020026 16#00010246) CPU changes to "DEFECTIVE state (system reaction)" if the CPU in the motion environment works in conjunction with OPC UA communication.
  • If the "MC_InterpolateCam" instruction is called several times before the preceding interpolation is completed, the ID "80AB" error is now output at the block.
  • If drives are activated in the user program with ReconfigIOSystem, no RUN-STOP transition is required afterwards to be able to apply the change at the axis TOs.
  • The runtime fluctuations of the "MC interpolator" caused by the dynamic adaptation have been reduced by introducing "MC-LookAhead" for path planning with interpolating movements.
  • There are no more setpoint position jumps during the interpolating movement.
  • There is no more timeout error during the download after changing the axis configuration in the TIA Portal from virtual axis to real axis and changing over to the PROFIdrive telegram.
  • The current load torque is now calculated correctly if the length unit is inches.
  • The behavior of a following command from "MC_MotionInPosition" to "MC_MoveAbsolute" has been improved.
  • The "MC-Alarm 201" message no longer appears if a restart is triggered on the technology object in rapid succession.
  • The absolute encoder adjustment can now also be performed correctly at the hardware limit switch.
  • For analog axes, the actual speed is now calculated correctly taking the mechanical settings into account.
  • No more sporadic dynamic deviations occur when chaining "MC_MoveCircularAbsolute" to "MC_MoveLinearAbsolute" commands with the setting "dynamicAdaption = 2".
  • The velocity of linear analog axes (e.g. hydraulic cylinders) is calculated correctly during simulation.
  • The effect of the "Override" on interpolation movements is identical, regardless of whether commands are already in the job memory or whether it was only started after the "Override" was changed.
  • Concerning CPU 1511(F), 1513(F), 1511C, 1512C with integrated display:
    It doesn't occur any longer that in very rare cases during commission phase the CPU stays in start-up ( "connecting" state) because during the usage of Motion Control- or Failsafe Organization blocks ((MC-Servo, MC-Interpolator, F-OB-RTGx)  the CPU was forced very often to STOP mode.

  • When using the so-called S5 timers as timers in the user program, the status of these blocks is now displayed with "Monitor".
  • When monitoring a block via "Open and monitor", values are also displayed when the block is called up in the STL via CC/UC (call block conditionally/unconditionally) and shall then be monitored using a call hierarchy.
  • After terminating block monitoring, the cycle time returns to the value it had before starting the "Monitor block" procedure.
  • The "Monitor block" function has no longer any sporadic effects on parameter transfer with function blocks.
  • When performing an implicit type conversion from REAL to INT on a function block for INPUT or OUTPUT parameters, the variable value is now correctly displayed and used when monitoring the block.
  • The IEC timer blocks function correctly even if the relevant value from the corresponding instance DB has been connected as input value for the parameter PT.
  • If, with an IEC timer, the values for the "IEC time" parameter are stored in a structure of the data type "IEC timer"_LTIME, the output ET is no longer set to a random value if the value at the input "IN" changes from TRUE to FALSE.
  • If a force job is deactivated, an outgoing event is triggered again in the alarm system.
  • The "SPLIT" block indicates the position in which the conversion was stopped if the same character is used both as separator and as end separator and an error code is pending.
  • If subscriptions are used with the OPC UA server on the CPU, the change notifications are sent correctly if "StatusValueTimestamp" is used as a trigger for a variable change (Not for S7-1500 R/H).
  • The robustness with the OPC UA client function has been increased when using the connection identification (Not for S7-1500 R/H).

The following behavior has been eliminated:

  • If a password longer than 61 characters is defined for OPC UA in the global security settings of the TIA Portal project, the following message is no longer displayed sporadically: "Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error, CPU switching to DEFECTIVE mode (system reaction)".
  • If program errors are processed with an extremely high alarm load, the following message is no longer output: "Temporary CPU error: Integrity error, CPU switching to DEFECTIVE mode (system reaction)".

For S7-1500 T CPUs only:

  • If a job for a kinematic movement with maximum rounding is inserted in a job chain and the previous kinematic movement job nearly reaches the target position, the position setpoint step-change no longer occurs.

For ET 200SP CPUs only:

  • Increased data transmission robustness in combination with the use of BA-send and SIMATIC ET 200AL modules with large quantity framework

The following behavior has been improved:

  • If the alarm messages have been configured in different languages for the "Get_Alarm" block, the alarm texts are no longer only visible for a few seconds when switching the display language.
  • The string instructions (e.g. MID, DELETE) now supply correct values when the variable has the data type WString, input and output are on the same WString variable, and the length of the WString is greater than 1024 bits at the same time.
  • The configuration limit for  monitoring variables with memory-intensive values (STRING, WSTRING) has been increased so that the sporadic message "The maximum number of monitoring operations permitted has been exceeded" no longer occurs in most applications.
  • When variables are accessed either directly or via an array (via AWP_Start_Array) on the same web page for user-defined web pages, the effect whereby symbolic characters were displayed instead of the variable values no longer occurs.
  • The web server now uses the defined MIME type for JSON files.
  • The number of sent bytes is now displayed correctly on the "Connection status" page in the web server of the CPU with an OPC UA connection.
  • Communication between the IO controller and the I-device works in case of different subnet masks even if the IO controller and I-device are located in overlapping IP subnets and  the IP addresses are within the shared overlapping area of the IP subnets. For example, the I-device has the IP address 145.34.0.10 and the subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and the IO controller the IP address 145.34.0.11 and the subnet mask 255.255.255.128
  • During "Device replacement without removable data storage medium", the CPU behaves correctly even when the DCP response of the IO device does not contain an InstanceId parameter.
  • In the case of access via OPC UA, a Boolean array can now be written or read in a UDT even with a non-optimized block.
  • The OPC UA server no longer checks the IP address of the client certificate in the certificate field "Subject Alternative Name".
  • With the OPC UA server, empty strings are now displayed correctly, according to the OPC UA specification, in structures.
  • The performance restrictions identified in version 2.5 relating to the reading and writing of string values in structures no longer occur with version 2.6.
  • With the OPC UA server, it is now possible to create OPC UA subscriptions based on registered node IDs (registered OPC UA nodes).

The following behavior has been revised:

Only for CPU 1511-1 PN (6ES7511-1AK02-0AB0), CPU 1511C-1 PN (6ES7511-1CK01-0AB0), CPU 1512C-1 PN (6ES7512-1CK01-0AB0) and CPU 1513-1 PN (6ES7513-1AL02-0AB0):

  • Projects created with a TIA Portal version < V15 can now also be loaded into a CPU with a new article number without the CPU going into STOP mode after a power OFF/power ON.

Only for S7-1500T CPUs:

  • The orientation axis can now also be moved in the object coordinate systems OCS1 to OCS3 via the kinematics control panel.
  • Jumps in the TO variables to the coordinate display no longer occur when a new motion command is issued in the object coordinate system (OCS) after a change to the object coordinate system.
  • A position jump no longer occurs when a linear movement is looped through to the next and intermediate definition of the workspace zone.

The following behavior has been eliminated:

  • When program changes are downloaded, the fail-safe CPU no longer goes into STOP mode with the message: "16#0D:75D1, error: Safety program: Internal CPU error" when the OPC UA server is activated and a fail-safe OB is present.
  • The CPU no longer sporadically goes into STOP mode with the message "CPU error: Memory card evaluation error: Inconsistent external load memory structure, current card type: Program card (external load memory), function completed/aborted, new startup inhibit set: ..External load memory is corrupt (delete in TIA Portal or remove memory card)" when only the hardware configuration is loaded (without blocks).
  • When program changes are downloaded, the sporadic message "Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (internal system code: 16#00000000 16#10020000 16#00000000), CPU switching to DEFECTIVE mode (system reaction)" no longer occurs when IEC timers are used in a global DB and when the IEC_Time bit is transferred to a higher-level FB as a parameter in addition. 
  • When JSON and AJAX are used as data interfaces for data exchange between the web server and web client, it can no longer sporadically occur that the web server adds characters in the response frame so that an error message occurs in the parser for the web client.

  • The sporadic message "Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (internal system code: 16#00400001 16#10020065 16#77889D9C), CPU switching to DEFECTIVE mode (system reaction)" no longer occurs when the instruction for loading user-defined web pages is called cyclically in the user program and access to the user-defined web pages takes place at the same time.
  • When a variable is monitored via OPC UA and the changed user program is downloaded at the same time, the sporadic message "Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (internal system code: 16#00400001 16#1002012E 16#7799E9A4), CPU switching to DEFECTIVE mode (system reaction)" no longer occurs.

Only for CPU 1516T/TF, CPU 1517(F)-3 PN/DP, CPU 1517T/TF-3 PN/DP, CPU 1518(F)-4 PN/DP, CPU 1518(F)-4 PN/DP ODK,  CPU 1518(F)-4 PN/DP MFP:

  • Incorrect data transfers no longer occur when transferring parameters with lossy implicit conversions.
    A combination of different conditions during the block call caused this incorrect data transfer:
    • An implicit, lossy assignment was made at the block interface during parameter transfer (e.g. transfer of a DINT value to an INT block parameter)
    • Only FB calls are affected
    • The ENO functionality needs to be actively used during block call (e.g. interconnection of the ENO output in LAD)
    • After the lossy parameter transfer, a further parameter transfer needs to take place during the block call.

  • The number of the "monitored Items" on the OPC UA server is now again displayed correctly in the OPC UA client when the connection to the OPC UA server was interrupted on the CPU and then restored later.
  • If subscriptions were set up for an OPC UA server that is running and then new server interfaces for the OPC UA server of the CPU are imported via an XML import, the sporadic behavior that the OPC UA server is no longer accessible no longer occurs.
  • The sporadic behavior, where the controller dwells in startup when one of the I/O devices configured at the PN IO interface is configured but not accessible, no longer occurs.
  • A simultaneous failure of multiple PN devices no longer sporadically leads to an excessively high increase in cycle time due to the message burst.
  • The instructions "Serialize" and "Deserialize" now work correctly together with data blocks that were created with "optimized block access" when a Bool array was defined as source or target range.
  • The output values for the instructions "T_CONV" and "CONV" are no longer overwritten by enabling "Monitor block" when tags of type "optimized block access" are simultaneously interconnected at the block input and at the block output, and these tags are additionally 32-bit or 64-bit long.
  • In interaction with the TIA Portal option "Energy Suite", "Energy Objects" can now be logged to the SIMATIC Memory Card more often than only once.

Only for CPUs of type S7-1500T(F)

  • The orientation axis A can now also be positioned in an object coordinate system in the operating mode "Jog to target position" using the kinematics control board.
  • If you use the Motion Control instructions "MC_DefineWorkspaceZone" and "MC_DefineKinematicsZone" for zone definition with 2D kinematics and 2D kinematics with orientation, only a value unequal to 0.0 is permissible at the parameters "Frame.y", "Frame.a" and "Frame.c".
  • The internal calculation of the Extended Motion Control resources has been corrected.

  • The very sporadic message no longer occurs: "Internal system error (error code:  44 OmsError) – Please contact SIMATIC Customer Support" if data blocks are monitored on the CPU and the content of the data blocks is changed simultaneously by a download via the TIA Portal.
  • The very sporadic message: "Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception error (not relevant for user, system code: 16#00400001 16#10020025 16#711B6244) CPU switches to DEFECT state (system behavior)" no longer occurs with the CPUs <= CPU 1513(F) when an excessively large number of tags with the data type "STRUCT" are used in the user program together with absolute addressed data blocks and the use of "MOVE" commands.

Only for CPUs of type S7-1500T(F)

  • When using "MC_Reset" with function parameter "Restart" = True at the technology object kinematics, the sporadic behavior that the TO kinematics then rejects all commands with ErrorID 16#8001 no longer occurs.

  • Testing with breakpoints is supported for the SCL and STL programming languages. For F-CPUs this requires that an activated breakpoint triggers a STOP of the CPU as soon as an F-program is present.
    If motion control functions are used (existence of MC servo (OB91) and MC interpolator (OB92)), an active breakpoint leads to a STOP of the CPU.
  • The extension of the cycle time due to monitoring of blocks is significantly reduced.
  • A pop-up window with information appears when the current cycle time increases by more than 50% due to monitoring.
  • Another pop-up window with information appears when the cycle time exceeds the maximum cycle time due to monitoring.

New features of firmware V2.5 for programming:

  • The "FileReadC" instruction can be used in the user program to read a binary file (ASCII file) that was stored on the memory card of the CPU via the web server.

  • Torque control instructions for applying an additive setpoint torque in the drive.
  • Cyclic specification of torque limits in the drive.
  • Evaluation of the actual torque value of the drive directly in the TO DB of the axis.

New features of firmware V2.5 for motion control applications for S7-1500T/TF CPUs:

  • Kinematics technology object for control of kinematics (2D, 3D, with and without orientation axis) such as Cartesian gantries, roll pickers, articulated arm robots, delta pickers, SCARA, tripods and cylindrical robots. In addition, user-defined 2D and 3D kinematics (with and without orientation axis) are supported.
  • Kinematics trace for  3D visualization of the current motion of the tool center point (TCP) and recording of the path motion of the kinematics, which can be replayed as a trace.

The following behavior has been revised:

  • Via the instruction "GetSMCInfo", you can read out the card size, the memory space which is already occupied on the memory card, and the number of write/delete processes performed on the card in the user program.
  • In order to be able to split up or further process control words and status words, elementary data types can be converted into a bit-array using the "SCATTER" instruction and a bit-array converted into an elementary data type, such as WORD, using the "GATHER" instruction.

The following behavior has been changed with FW 2.1 (all CPUs):

  • In the event of a peripheral access error, direct peripheral accesses, which are interconnected as input parameters to components, have no longer the result that the component is no longer run through. Instead of this, the system uses the replacement value of the signal in the component.

The following behavior has been revised with FW 2.1 (all CPUs):

  • When monitoring a component online, the CPU does no longer STOP on account of area length errors.
  • When generating alarm text using the "Get_Alarm" block, the behavior regarding alarm texts has been improved.
  • With the "Get_Alarm" block, the status message "W#16#8003 – the parameter Lcid is invalid or a language selected at the parameter Lcid is not loaded" is no longer output if the "InfoText" parameter is empty with the "Alarm_Data" data type.
  • The behavior of the "Get_Alarm" has been improved regarding the call from several OB priorities.
  • The behavior of the "STP" instruction, when simultaneously performing "online monitoring" via the TIA Portal, has been improved.
  • The behavior shown when downloading data logs via the webserver of the CPU has been improved.

  • In special cases fail-safe CPUs no longer go into STOP following a download in RUN.

  • If the NTP server cannot be reached, the following sporadic message during time synchronization via NTP (in 24h format) is no longer triggered: "Serious firmware exception error (non user-relevant system code: 16#00400001 16#10020025 16#478D7C58)"

  • The following sporadic message "Serious firmware exception error (non user-relevant system code: 16#00400001 16#1002012E 16#FFFFFFFF)" is no longer triggered when a block is reloaded in the CPU after monitoring of the block with the subsequent notification that the monitoring function for this block is already active.


The following behavior has been changed with FW 1.8.5:

  • PROFINET devices are displayed in the topological view in the webserver if the PROFINET device name does not conform to the DNS standard.
  • Performance during the instructions "Serialize" and "Deserialize" has been improved.
  • If an AT construct with optimized saved data is used in the user program, the low and high bytes are no longer transposed.

 

Update V1.8.4 (CPUs)

The following behavior has been corrected with FW 1.8.4:

  • The following sporadic message no longer appears in connection with Compare commands for the CPUs 1517(F) and 1518(F): "Serious firmware exception error (non user-relevant system code: 16#00400001 16#10020071 16#00010296)"
  • The CPUs 1517(F) and 1518(F) no longer go into STOP sporadically due to cycle time violation when the cycle time was not violated.
  • During long-term online functions such as "Monitor block", the following message no longer sporadically appears: "Serious firmware exception error (non user-relevant system code: 16#00400001 16#1002012E 16#00010246)

The following behavior has been revised:

  • For modules configured downstream from an IE/PB Link, the instruction "GEO2LOG" (determination of the hardware identification from the slot information) now functions without restrictions during startup from the SMC card following power on.
  • The correct jump label is once again correctly output at the instruction "Switch" if the instruction "SCALE_X" was used in the previous network.

 

Update V1.8.3 (CPUs)

The following behavior has been corrected with FW 1.8.3: 1)

  • When monitoring several blocks respectively monitoring tables, the following highly sporadic message no longer occurs: "Serious firmware exception error (non user-relevant system code: 16#00400001 16#10020065 16#4B3F1C88)“ respectively "Serious firmware exception error (non user-relevant system code:16#00400001 16#10020065 16#00010246)“
  • When a DP station fails, the highly sporadic behavior that the configured replacement values are temporarily interpreted as process values by the CPU no longer occurs.
  • When removing a central module of the ET 200SP CPU, the behavior that the configured replacement values are temporarily interpreted as process values by the CPU no longer occurs.
  • When downloading an F program, the following message no longer occurs: "Invalid block content or length“.

Update V1.8.2 (CPUs)

The following behavior has been changed with FW 1.8.2:

  • When you download to CPU 1517(F) or CPU 1518(F) the following error message no longer occurs due to structural descriptions of data structures: "There is not enough code or data memory space on the CPU for this amount of data – Insufficient work memory for compilation", although sufficient loading and memory are available.
  • On the Web server of the CPU, the correct text for "Retentive memory" is displayed in Chinese under the "Memory" tab.

The following behavior has been corrected with FW 1.8.2:

  • The following message no longer occurs sometimes with routing to SINAMICS drives through the S7-1500 CPUs: "Temporary CPU error"
  • The following sporadic message no longer occurs in the CPU-CPU communication over PROFIBUS when the remote communication partner is a passive PROFIBUS station: "Serious firmware exception error (non user-relevant system code: f5 10020015 21)“
  • When you download program changes to the PLC, the following highly sporadic message no longer occurs: "Serious firmware exception error (non user-relevant system code: 16#44440000 16#10020000 16#00000000)“

 

Update V1.8.1 (CPUs)

New features with firmware V1.8

  • Support of the SIMATIC S7 app for all CPUs.
  • Reduced startup times of up to 5s (all CPUs <= CPU 1516(F))
  • Support of the ET 200SP CM AS-i Master ST and F-CM AS-i Safety ST module using the ET 200SP CPUs on the central backplane bus

Programming:

  • The set IP address of the NTP server can be changed at the T_Config block during runtime.

Web server:

  • Write access to tags in a tag table via the web server of the CPU

The following behavior has been revised:

  • The performance when writing data via the WRIT_DBL block to the load memory of the CPU has been significantly increased.
  • Security alarms are only generated and sent to clients if a client is logged in that supports this feature.
  • In case of a very high alarm load, alarms are no longer sent sporadically to clients that are not logged in.
  • It no longer happens that a timer used multiple times in the user program is not switched correctly while the CPU is in RUN operating state, for example, an ON time delay changed to an ON/OFF delay.
  • It no longer happens during data exchange between two SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs via OUC that the communication does not take place correctly when using DBs with a user-defined structure of the Array type with odd bytes.
  • The behavior when using trace functions on the CPU has been revised.
  • In combination of MOVE_STRUCT with UDTs the behavior has been revised.

 

The following behavior has been eliminated:

  • The following sporadic messages no longer appear during download of program changes to the controller when there is insufficient space on the memory card:
    • "Internal system error (error code 0x9c2aae001514ff0a) - Please contact Customer Support"
    • "Internal system error (error code: 0x000ad2200000fea0) – Please contact Customer Support"
    • "Internal system error (error code: 0x8000ad2000000016) – Please contact Customer Support"
  • The following very sporadic message no longer appears after download of an inconsistent TIA Portal project: "16#00040000 (Internal system error, not relevant for user)
  • The following message no longer appears during download when files with invalid characters (e.g. "“Recipe/*) are to be generated in the load memory of the CPU: "Internal system error (error code 0xc000c4200000fea0) - Please contact Customer Support"
  • The following sporadic message no longer appears during download of projects in which UDTs with substructures are used: "Internal system error (error code 0xc000af0d00002003) - Please contact Customer Support"

  • When the user program is used to access an array area outside the defined array, the following message no longer appears: "Serious firmware exception error (non user-relevant system code: 16#00400001 16#10020065 16#4EBCF734)" – a corresponding message is entered in the CPU diagnostic buffer.
  • When blocks are monitored in the user program with the "Monitoring with call path" function, the monitored values are no longer occasionally displayed incorrectly.
  • When using trace functions, the following message is no longer displayed sporadically on the CPU: "Serious firmware exception error (non user-relevant system code: 16#00400001 16#10020025 16#4B4EDE6C)"
  • If overlapping array areas are used within the same array as source area and target area with the MOVE_BLK_VARIANT instruction, the source area is no longer copied incorrectly to the target area with the "MOVE_BLK_VARIANT" instruction.
  • When using UDTs with many substructures, the following message no longer appears e.g. in connection with the "MOVE_BLK_VARIANT" instruction in special configurations: "Unknown instruction in block … "
