As from SINAMICS Firmware V4.7 SP3 (see 109476414) three new SINAMICS application classes are offered for commissioning SINAMICS G120 drives, which are automatically preset independently of the SINAMICS G120 Power Module used.
- Standard Drive Control
Standard Drive Control is preset for the Power Modules PM240, PM240-2 and G120C in frame sizes FSA-C. This application class can, for example, be used for the following applications:- Pumps, fans and compressors with flow characteristic
- Wet or dry beam technology, mills, mixers, kneaders, crushers, agitators
- Horizontal conveyor technology (conveyor belts, roller conveyors, chain conveyors)
- Basic spindles
- Dynamic Drive Control
DynamicDrive Control is preset for the Power Modules PM240, PM240-2 and PM330 in frame sizes ≥ FSD. This application class can, for example, be used for the following applications:- Pumps and compressors with displacement machines
- Rotary furnaces
- Extruders
- Centrifuges
- Expert
Expert is fixed assigned to the Power Modules PM230, PM250 and PM260 as soon as for G120D, G110M and ET200pro FC-2. This setting corresponds to the existing wizard and will also be assigned to existing projects. It allows to flexibly parameterize the drive, but requires a detailed understanding of the drive.
The SINAMICS application classes Standard and Dynamic Drive Control simplify commissioning and ensure rugged motor control. For this, a motor data identification is performed once when switching on the drive for the first time.
With the Firmware V4.7 SP3, the behavior of the motor data identification has changed:
With "Standard Drive Control", a shorter motor data identification process is performed after finishing the commissioning wizard when switching on the drive for the first time. Afterwards, the drive is ramped up immediately to the setpoint (p1900 = 12). The setting cannot be changed.

With "Dynamic Drive Control", a shorter motor data identification process is selected as default following the first run-up with subsequent ramp-up to the setpoint (p1900 = 12). The motor data identification can be configured. To ensure a higher accuracy und dynamic response of the closed loop control, we recommend that you perform a rotary measurement. For the motor data identification, you can select during commissioning whether the drive shall run up directly to the setpoint or whether another Power ON command is required.
Under "Expert", you will find the traditional wizard providing a multitude of setting options.
With this setting, you can configure the motor data identification. For the motor data identification, you can select during commissioning whether the drive shall run up directly to the setpoint or whether another Power ON command is required.
![]() | Warning |
When selecting motor data identification (motor ID) with subsequent ramp-up to the setpoint speed (p1900 = 11 or 12; 12=standard setting with "Standard Drive Control" and "Dynamic Drive Control"), the motor is, upon the first Power ON command, directly accelerated to the setpoint speed, following a short delay time caused by the motor ID (approx. 15 to 30 s). |
The new application classes are supported by the new commissioning wizard as from STARTER Version V4.4 SP1 (see 109476613), Startdrive V13 SP1 with Hardware Support Package V4.7 SP3 (see 109476629), IOP V1.6 (see 109476464) and BOP-2 Firmware V4.7 SP3 or higher.
With SINAMICS Firmware V4.7 SP6 the following changes, as compared to V4.7 SP3, were performed:
From firmware V4.7 SP6 (109482094) the default settings for a motor data identification was changed in combination with the application classes "Standard Drive Control" und "Dynamic Drive Control" (p1900= 2; 2= Motor data identification (in standstill)). With this setting the motor remains in standstill after a the motor data identification was completed. To start the motor, a new start command is necessary.
For "Standard Drive Control", after the commissioning wizard has been completed and when the drive is switched on for the first time, a shortened motor data identification routine is carried out (p1900 = 2).
For "Dynamic Drive Control", as default setting, a shortened motor data identification routine is selected after the drive is switched on for the first time (p1900 = 2). A rotating measurement is recommended to achieve a higher accuracy and dynamic performance of the closed-loop control.
Under "Expert", you will find the traditional wizard providing a multitude of setting options.
In all three application classes the type of motor data identification routine can be configured. For the motor data identification routine, you can select during commissioning whether the drive shall run up directly to the setpoint or whether another Power ON command is required. An active motor data identification routine will be displayed in the Engineering-Tools and IOP from V1.6 SP2, BOP-2.
