Integration and simulation of a SITOP 24 V Power Supply in SIMATIC PCS 7

  • Entry
  • Associated product(s)
The reliable 24V power supply is an important factor in high plant availability during the operation of SIMATIC PCS 7. You implement DC power supply of the automation technology using preferred SITOP power supply concepts for redundancy, buffering and selectivity. Further is it possible to monitor and operate it on the PCS 7-OS.

Task
It is intended to implement a 24V power supply from the SITOP range in a PCS 7 system for automation technology. If possible, the power supply must be designed on a failsafe basis. The system operating personnel must be able to monitor the status of the 24V power supply on the PCS 7-OS.

Solution
You can use different products from the SITOP range to implement the automation task. The SITOP library provides you with the driver blocks, function blocks, block icons, and faceplates for monitoring the PROFINET-capable devices (UPS1600 and PSU8600), in addition to preconfigured process tag types for monitoring the signal contacts of mains units, redundancy as well as selectivity modules via the digital input assemblies.

In the application example, the power supply of the PCS 7 system components (AS, network communication, distributed peripherals) is implemented on the one hand by means of network devices from the SITOP modular product range as well as by a redundancy and selectivity module or a DC UPS, and on the other hand using the SITOP PSU8600 power supply system.

To guarantee a supply of power to the automation technology that is as safe as possible, the following components are used:
  • Redundant 24V power supply (2x PSU8200 and PSE202U)
  • Buffering of the 24V power supply to bypass a power outage (UPS1600 and UPS1100)
  • Selective monitoring of 24V feeders (PSE200U)
  • A power supply system (PSU8600) with selectively monitored outputs, expansion module with selectively monitored outputs (CNX8600), short-term buffering in case of power failures (BUF8600) and UPS capability (UPS8600 and BAT8600)
  • Redundant power supply system (2x PSU8600 and PSE202U)

The 24 V power supply is monitored on the PCS 7 Operator Station.

The application example shows you how to configure the SITOP hardware and to create the AS program as well as how to configure the OS. The demo project contains all the components that are described and you can use it as a teach yourself resource or implement it in your own projects.

For testing this application, you can use the SIMIT project together with the PCS 7 project. The download file of the simulation also contains a library with the simulation models of the following devices:

  • SITOP UPS1600/110
  • SITOP PSU8600; CNX8600 und BUF8600

The source files of the simulation models are not password-protected and can be adapted as required using the SIMIT Component Type Editor (CTE).
