How do you update corporate libraries in STEP 7 (TIA Portal)?

Corporate libraries are usually managed centrally on a server, for example. There you make the client PCs available for downloading.

A major role is played here by the "CorporateSettings.xml" file (Fig. 1). There it is stated which corporate library is to be used (for example, DRIVE:\\Customer-PC\TestLibs\Lib001a\Lib001a.al13). When the administrator makes changes to the corporate library, the library's file name has to be changed accordingly.

The corporate library Lib001a.al13 is changed and saved as Lib002b.al13 at the same location on the server.

To share the new library with the client PCs the administrator edits the configuration file "CorporateSettings.xml" (Fig. 2) and enters the new name of the library.

Then the administrator distributes the updated file "CorporateSettings.xml" to the client PCs (by copying and replacing). Here, the directory on the client PCs is preset:

  • C:\ProgramData\Siemens\Automation\Portal V13\CorporateSettings\

The TIA Portal on the client PCs recognizes that the "CorporateSettings.xml" file has been changed only through the changed name of the library (Fig. 3) and requests the user to accept the changes.

Fig. 1

When the administrator makes changes to the corporate library, you should also change the library file name accordingly in the configuration file. In the example below the library Lib001a.al13 is changed and stored as Lib002b.al13 on the server.

Fig. 2

Enter the name of the updated library in the "CorporateSettings.xml" file and copy the configuration file to the client PCs in the directory:

  • C:\ProgramData\Siemens\Automation\Portal V13\CorporateSettings\

The administrator has to replace the existing configuration file on the client PCs with the new configuration file.

STEP 7 (TIA Portal) recognizes a change of library on the client PCs only through the changed name and issues a message requesting you to accept the changes. After confirmation the existing corporate library is likewise updated to the new version.

Furthermore, STEP 7 (TIA Portal) also recognizes an extension of the corporate library, for example when a new library is added.
