How do you create a COMOS log file for a local COMOS installation?

If you have addressed a support request about COMOS to Support, a COMOS log file is often required for the Support Request. Here we describe how to create a COMOS log file for a COMOS local installation.

Procedure

  1. Download the "DebugView" application via this link:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/debugview.aspx

    Note
    Always use the latest version of "DebugView" to create the log file.
    Also you can start "DebugView" live with the latest version:
    https://live.sysinternals.com/dbgview.exe

  2. Unpack the Zip file.

  3. Start the "Dbgview.exe" application with a double-click.

  4. Right-click the COMOS link to open the associated pop-up menu and click the "Properties" item.

    The "Properties of COMOS..." dialog opens.

  5. Click the "Link" tab and in the "Target" field you insert the following text without quotation marks at the end of the specified path: " /DG:D" to start COMOS in Debug mode..

    Note
    You must enter a space before the slash "/" character.

  6. Click the "Apply" button and "OK" to apply the change.

  7. Start COMOS.

  8. In the next step you have to configure the "DebugView" application for COMOS.
    For this you open the Windows Task Manager and click the "Processes" tab.

  9. Go to the "PID (process ID)" column of the "Processes" view to see which PID COMOS is being used on your system.

    In the Windows Task Manager menu you click "View > Select Columns...".

  10. Click the check box to enable the "PID (Process ID)" option and then click the "OK" button.

  12. Select the "DebugView" dialog and then press the key combination <Ctrl+L>.
    The "DebugView Filter" window opens.

  13. In the "Include" input field you insert the COMOS PID and confirm the dialog by clicking the "OK" button.

  14. Now reproduce your query/problem in COMOS (for your COMOS Support Request).

  15. Then save the log file of the "DebugView" application and in the name of the log file you save the Incident Report - ID(IR-ID) of your COMOS Support Request.

  16. Upload the log file via the GTAC portal.

Other ways of logging COMOS system data

Under circumstances (if you have made special reference to it in the COMOS Support Request) it might be necessary to generate additional log files with the Process Monitor.
For example, this affects procedures and applications like:

  • "Network login"
  • "Remote License Service"
  • "Transmittals".

The "Process Monitor" can log file and registry access.
Proceed as follows to create a log file with the "Process Monitor" application.

  1. Download the "Process Monitor" application via this link:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/processmonitor.aspx

    Note
    Always use the latest version of "Process Monitor" to create the log file.
  2. Unpack the Zip file.

  3. Start the application by double-clicking "Procmon.exe".

  4. In the first step you switch off Capture by clicking the "Capture" button
    or by pressing the key combination <Ctrl+E>.

  5. Delete previously recorded data by clicking the "Clear" button or
    by pressing the key combination <Ctrl+X>.

  6. In the Process Monitor toolbar you click the menu command "Filter > Filter...".

    The Filter dialog opens.


  7. Set the filter properties as follows on COMOS and then click the "Add" button.

  8. Click the "Apply" button and "OK".

  9. Start Capture again by clicking the "Capture" button or
    by pressing the key combination <Ctrl+E>.

  10. Reproduce your query/problem in COMOS (for your COMOS Support Request).

  11. Save the log file and in the name of the log file you save the Incident Report - ID(IR-ID) of your COMOS Support Request.
    Click the "Save" button.

    The log file should be stored as follows in a storage location of your choice.

  12. Upload the log file via the GTAC portal.
