SIPLUS extreme specifies the limiting values of airborne contaminants according to the European standard EN 60721-3-3 ‘Classification of environmental conditions – Part 3: Classification of groups of environmental parameters and their severities – Section 3: Stationary use at weatherprotected locations’ for class 3C4.

In non-European regions the standard ANSI/ISA -71.04-2013 , Environmental conditions for process measurement and control system: Regarding the appearing harmful gases Contaminants' is used that classifies the industrial atmospheres according to airborne contaminants.

The severity levels of the standards ANSI/ISA -71.04 and EN 60721-3-3 can be compared via the limiting values:

All limit values in the table above are already standardized on the unit ,pieces per billion’ (10^9).

EN 60721-3-3

class 3C1 – 3C4 normative unit ‚pieces pro million‘ (10^6)

1) Limiting value for max. 30 minutes per day

2) Mean average value

ISA-71.04

severity level G1 – GX normative unit ‘pieces per billion‘ (10^9)

3) no limiting values defined (comparable 30 min per day)

4) ISA-71.04 has not upper limit for severity level GX, this must be negotiated between product manufacturer and user.

5) HCl is not part of the ISA ISA-71.04.

The factor 1000 is already taken into account in the comparison of the two standards. The limiting values of the classes of EN 60721-3-3 generally are more demanding on the electrical equipment as the respective classes (severity levels) of ISA -71.04.
