SCALANCE W: Which five "additional channels" are available to you thanks to SRD without radar recognition?
Short Range Devices is a term that is applied to radio or wireless devices that are designed to operate over a short range.
With SCALANCE W firmware V6.1 and higher the channels have been released for short-range radio / SRD (Short Range Devices). You can use channels 149 to 165 of the SCALANCE W network components for the Short Range Devices in compliance with the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) standard. This then gives you 5 additional channels in which, on the one hand, you need not worry about interruption through radar detection (DFS). And on the other, there are normally significantly fewer other WLAN nodes on these channels. The maximum transmitter power is limited on these channels. These new channels are available for the 5 GHz band and are suitable for RCOAX applications.
You can use channels 149 to 165 indoors and outdoors. The Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) does not have to be used on these channels.
The following requirements apply to SCALANCE W network components:
- You need firmware V6.1 (or higher) and STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V14 or higher.
- The channels are not available for SCALANCE W760/W720.
- Only for countries that apply the ETSI standard, except Serbia.
- However, SRD is released for Serbia for the W778/W738 products.
The maximum transmitter power or EIRP (Equivalent Isotropically Radiated Power) must not exceed 25 mW or 14 dBm. This makes the channels suitable for short-range applications.
