How should you configure the encoder settings in the TO (Technology Object) for the SINAMICS V90 PN?

Up to and including STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V13, when using a S7-1500 CPU, the encoder settings have to be parameterized by the user. The settings must be the same for the drive and for the TO.

Description
With STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V14 and higher, when using a S7-1500 CPU automatic, it is possible to transfer the encoder parameter values from the drive. The three following requirements must be fulfilled for this:

  • The S7-1500 CPU must have at least firmware V2.0.
  • You have to configure the technology object "TO_PositioningAxis" version V3.0 or higher.
  • In the "Encoder data exchange" dialog, check whether the option "Automatic transfer of encoder parameter values" is enabled. If not, enable it. 

With STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V14 and higher you have available in STEP 7 (TIA Portal) an integrated Engineering via HSP0185 for configuring and commissioning the SINAMICS V90 PN on a TO of an S7-1500 CPU. This integrated Engineering supports among other things in the factory settings the "Automatic transfer" of the drive data (including encoder parameters and reference values).

Already with STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V13 and higher you can add the SINAMICS V90 PN via GSDML in STEP 7 (TIA Portal) and via this parameterize the commissioning tool "V-Assistant" that is to be installed separately from STEP 7 (TIA Portal).

If you do not use the option "Automatic transfer of encoder parameter values" or are still working with STEP 7 (TIA Portal V13), you enter the following encoder parameter values for the corresponding encoder type:

  • Incremental encoder with TTL (Transistor Transistor Logic) interface and 2500 increments per revolution
  • Multi-turn absolute value encoder with 20-bit resolution, 12-bit revolution resolution and BiSS interface
  • Single-turn absolute value encoder with 21-bit resolution and BiSS interface

To input the encoder parameters you open the configuration of the positioning axis. You then navigate in the area navigation to the dialog "Hardware interface > Encoder data exchange".

  • Fine resolution: Bits in Gx_XIST1: 2
