How should you install the TIA Portal V14 SP1 when TIA Portal V14 is already installed on your computer?
Only start installation of the Service Pack when you have received the SP1 for each product that is installed on your computer. You have to install the SP1 for all SIMATIC TIA Portal products. If the SP1 for just one product is missing, you can no longer open the TIA Portal and will receive the following error message:
"C:\Program Files\Siemens\Automation\Portal V14\Bin\Siemens.Automation.Portal.exe
This application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."
This message appears if you have not upgraded all the installed options of the TIA Portal to V14 SP1. To check where the differences lie you should start the uninstallation of the "SIMATIC Totally Integrated Automation Portal V14" via "Programs and Features" in the Control Panel. Via the Uninstallation you can see which versions of which TIA Portal options are installed.
If you have upgraded all the installed options to V14 SP1 or have uninstalled the non-available options, you should no longer get the error message when you start the TIA Portal.
2. Order of Installation
Pay attention to the order of installation of the SIMATIC TIA Portal products. First install the SP1 for STEP 7 (TIA Portal), because the HMI products integrate themselves into STEP 7. Then the SP1 for the HMI products followed by the optional software packages (STARTER, SINAMICS Startdrive, SiVArc, EnergySuite, for example).
Note on Simotion SCOUT TIA
With Simotion SCOUT TIA, pay attention to the versions that are compatible for the TIA Portal.
- For TIA Portal V14 you need Simotion SCOUT TIA V4.5.
- For TIA Portal V14 SP1 you need Simotion SCOUT TIA V5.1.
3. Virus Scanner
Disable the virus scanner before installing the Service Pack. You can enable the virus scanner again after installation of the Service Pack. To protect your PC against malware we recommend to disconnect the PC from network before the installation, or checking the matter with your IT service provider.
Performance might be impaired if your installed virus scanner is not released for the TIA Portal V14 SP1. Statements on compatibility between the TIA Portal and virus scanners are available in the Compatibility Tool. For this you click the link in Point 5.

6. Installation Hindered by Service Running via the Multiuser Server
In some cases the installation might abort with the request to close the process "Siemens.Automation.Portal.Server.exe".
If installation of STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V14 SP1 is hindered by a running service, then close the process in question via the Multiuser Server Configuration. Instructions for this are available in our FAQ entitled:

7. PLCSIM No Longer Starts After Update from V14 to V14 SP1
If you cannot start PLCSIM V14 SP1 despite successful installation, you have to uninstall it and install it again. A repair installation does not clear this error.
