PCS 7 Unit Template "Ice Cream Production"

  • Entry
  • Associated product(s)
The Unit Template "Ice Cream Production" contains all typical components of an ice cream plant, its control, the required logic and the visualization. It is modularly structured and based on standardized equipment modules.

Taking a closer look at a food or pharmaceutical producing facility and its engineering processes, we will find that certain process steps, procedures, and devices will repeat in the same or similar form.
An example of this is a process plant for the production of ice cream, which produced the different types of ice cream in batches. The unit template "Ice Cream Production" is based on a standardized and structured design of the automation program through the use of predefined equipment and the control modules. The example is used both as a basis for projects and as an overall standardization template.

The unit template “Ice Cream Demo” was realized as a SIMATIC PCS 7 multiproject in accordance with ISA S88.01.
The multiproject consists of an AS project (user program), and OS project (visualization with process images) as well as a SIMATIC batch plant (production recipes and transfer recipes). The AS project was created with the Advanced Process Library (APL) and SIMATIC BATCH.

Using this procedure has the following advantages:

  • A reduction in the expertise necessary to develop applications
  • A decrease in the configuration effort
  • Description of the most important automation functions for an ice cream plant
  • More flexible setup and adaptation due to equipment modules
  • Standardized structures
