ATEX marking according to EN ISO 80079-36/-37 for SIMOGEAR and MOTOX-N

In the non-electrical equipment for explosive atmospheres range, the previous EN 13463 -1, EN 13463-5, -6, and -8 standards have been replaced by the latest generation of EN 80079-36 and EN 80079-37 standards.

The new series of standards has been valid since December 1, 2016. The old EN 13463 standards are valid for a transitional period due to end in May 2019.

What's new in the ATEX non-electrical equipment for explosive atmospheres standard?

  1. The new EN ISO 80079 standard is internationally valid and has superseded the basic safety requirements of the EN 13463.
  2. Identification:
  • The letter »h« is always assigned, whatever the type of protection.
  • Analog to the ignition protection, a new EPL (equipment  protection level) has been introduced. This means that in addition to the zone, the effect of any potential explosions is also taken into account.
  • As for electrical explosion protection, the marking is separate according to gas G/dust D.
  • The dust area,  is marked as for electrical devices with "III"
    .

Requirements from the new generation of standards have been implemented for the products listed below:

Gearbox types:  E, Z, D, F, B, K, C, S
Sizes:   09 to 189
Input units:  K

Device designation: SIMOGEAR gearbox series
Gearbox types:  E, Z, D, F, B, K, C
Sizes:   29 to 189
Motors for direct mounting: 1MB1 Frame sizes 71 to 180

Device designation: MOTOX gearbox series
Gearbox types:  E, Z, D, F, K, C, S
Sizes:   08 to 208
Input units:  A, K, P

Date of coming into force

All orders since the end of 2017 have been executed using the new marking.

Article numbers

The article numbers of the solo gear units for hazardous areas and for geared motors with installed explosion-proof motors remain unchanged.
