Reason for change:

New functions:

  • iPCF-LF (industrial Point Coordination Function Legacy Free): Legacy-free mode for iPCF or iPCF-MC was introduced to achieve higher data rates using these functions.
In iPCF-LF mode, communication with the IEEE 802.11 a/b/g device generation is not supported.
  • NAT: PROFINET transparent mode enables communication with individual PROFINET users behind a WLAN client in NAT mode. The PROFINET frames are forwarded transparently, making the PROFINET devices visible externally.
Advantage is the 'saving' of IP addresses and the almost identical configuration of functionally identical mobile devices in TIA V15.
  • Force Roaming on IP down: The 'Force roaming if the configured destination address is not available' functionality is supported in client mode.
  • Maximum number of clients: the maximum number of clients that can connect at the same time with a Wi-Fi interface is now adjustable.
  • iPRP: AP wireless redundancy prevents the two clients of a client pair from connecting to the same WLAN interface of the access point or to the same access point
  • Background scan mode: Enhancement with the "Current Channel" option allows WLAN clients to update the scan list to the current channel using the beacons.
  • ACL: The configuration of IPv6 addresses for management ACL is supported.
  • The wireless approval list in the firmware has been updated. For more detailed information about the status of approvals for the respective device versions, refer to www.siemens.com/wireless-approvals

Corrections:

  • Sporadic roaming problems have been corrected
  • Sporadic sending of RSTP frames (BPDU) during run-up
  • RADIUS authentication of clients optimized
  • Improvements of Context Transfer with iPCF
  • Problems with the configuration of EtherNet/IP with multicast connections has been corrected
  • The configuration of min. AP signal strength in iPCF/-MC/-HT mode is locked.
  • Communication error when NAT timeout is configured too large has been corrected
  • Antenna ANT-793-8DQ is configurable
  • Incorrect entry of the default gateway via DHCP has been corrected
  • Optimization of DHCP Discover process
  • Sporadic packet losses during handover in iPCF mode has been corrected
  • Authentication type in iPCF/-M/-HT mode has been renamed
  • User rights extended to allow saving of SignalRecorder and  CountryList
  • Configured IPv6 parameters are saved permanently after a memory reset
  • Enhancements of RADIUS authentication error messages in the logbook
  • Possible crash when using a Telnet console with a certain width (14 characters) corrected
  • General optimizations to improve the user experience with SCALANCE W and help your system run better than before.

Notes:

  • This version contains security-related improvements which increase ruggedness. We recommend performing an update.
  • iPRP: Undesired side effects can occur when using iPRP in combination with A-MPDU. We therefore recommend avoiding the simultaneous use of the two functions.
  • Incompatibility C-PLUG created with firmware V1.0: If a device including the C-PLUG is equipped with the firmware V1.0 and a defect occurs, the device can only be replaced by a device with firmware V6.0 or older. After the replacement the device can be updated to the current firmware version.
  • Incompatibility with iPRP: iPRP systems with version V6.0.0 are not compatible with devices with version V6.1.0. All devices must be brought to the same firmware version (V6.0.0 or higher V6.1.0).
  • Due to increasing security requirements, only the AES encryption method is supported with iPCF and iPCF-MC. As of V05.00.00, the WEP encryption method can no longer be configured. Note: Existing installations that use the non-secure WEP encryption method should be upgraded to the more secure AES encryption method. In any event, this upgrade must be carried out before a firmware update to V05.00.00.
  • Note: If an EDS file from V5.2.1 is used and the device with firmware V6.1.1 is running, the devices are no longer accessible online.
  • The transfer protocol IEEE 802.11b is not supported in combination with iPCF, which means the SCALANCE W700-xRR devices must not be configured with the IEEE 802.11b operating mode in mixed operation.
  • After the update, channels may no longer be available with the current configuration due to a restriction of existing approvals (F-LED is illuminated). In this case  you need to check the settings for antennas (antenna gain).
  • Because changes may occur in the national approvals while the documentation for the firmware is being completed, there may be differences between the national approvals listed in V6.2.2 and in the Compact Operating Instructions. At the time of the release, the settings according to the country list of firmware V6.2.2 are valid. No approval is available yet for some countries that are marked with an asterisk in the Web Based Management and Command Line Interface. The currently available national approvals can be found in the list of wireless approvals under www.siemens.com/wireless-approvals.
  • In Bahrain, at least the V6.4 version must be used 109773308
