These CPUs are available in two versions.


                         



SIMATIC S7-1500R

For applications focusing on the redundancy of the CPUs, for example, to avoid data loss in the event of a CPU defect.

SIMATIC S7-1500H

For higher-value applications with greater configuration limits and higher requirements on the switchover time and performance

The two CPUs are connected to the I/O stations via a PROFINET IO ring and are also synchronized via this ring. In the event of a CPU failure, the backup CPU automatically takes over control of the process. No data is lost and the process can be continued very quickly.
The PROFINET IO MRP ring ensures that all nodes can be accessed even in the event of a field bus interruption.

The engineering corresponds to that of a standard CPU. The TIA Portal and redundant CPUs handle the synchronization of the programs and data. There is no additional workload for the user.
TIA Portal V15.1 is required for the engineering.

Details on S7-1500H

The CPUs are connected to the I/O stations via a PROFINET IO ring and are synchronized via dedicated synchronization modules and redundant fiber-optic cables.
In the event of a CPU failure, the backup CPU automatically takes over control of the process. No data is lost and the process can be continued bumplessly.
The PROFINET IO ring ensures that all nodes can be accessed even in the event of a field bus interruption.

Notes on the S7-1500H sync modules:

Two modules are required per CPU. They are plugged directly into the CPU. The connection between the CPUs is made via fiber-optic plug-in cables (2 duplex cables per system).

The sync module  6ES7960-1CB00-0AA5 is used for cable lengths up to 10 m. Standard pre-assembled fiber-optic cables (patch cables) are available in 3 different lengths for this module: 1 m, 2 m and 10 m.

The module 6ES7960-1FB00-0AA5 must be used for lengths up to 10 km. In this case, various types of fiber-optic cables can be used as installation or patch cables for outdoor and indoor applications. As there is a wide variety of possible versions, these cables are not available from the warehouse.

I/O that can be used for S7-1500R and S7-1500H:

The I/O devices are connected via a PROFINET ring with media redundancy function (MRP). All PROFINET IO devices assigned to the S7-1500R/H system must support system redundancy S2. These PROFINET IO devices can be located in the PROFINET ring or attached via a switch.

  • All PROFINET devices in the PROFINET ring must support the media redundancy function.
  • For S7-1500R, the H-Sync forwarding function is additionally recommended for PROFINET devices in the PROFINET ring.
  • The following PROFINET IO devices support system redundancy S2, media redundancy and H-Sync forwarding:
    • ET 200SP IM 155-6 PN HF (6ES7155-6AU00-0CN0), as of FW version V4.2
    • ET 200SP IM 155-6 PN/2 HF (6ES7155-6AU01-0CN0), as of FW version V4.2
    • ET 200SP IM 155-6 PN/3 HF (6ES7155-6AU30-0CN0), as of FW version V4.2
    • ET 200MP IM 155-5 PN HF (6ES7155-5AA01-0AB0), as of FW version V4.2
    • PN/PN Coupler (6ES7158-3AD10-0XA0), as of FW version V4.2
  • Switches of the SCALANCE XC-200, XP-200 and XF-200BA product families support system redundancy S2, media redundancy and H-Sync forwarding, e.g. SCALANCE XC208 (6GK5208-0BA00-2AC2), as of FW version V4.0.
