SIMOGEAR: Sales release for synchronous reluctance geared motors

With immediate effect, sales release is granted for synchronous reluctance geared motors which are directly attached to SIMOGEAR gearboxes.

The new drive system comprises SIMOGEAR standard gearboxes, the SIMOTICS synchronous reluctance motor (VSD4000) and the SINAMICS frequency converter for closed-loop control.

The fields of application result from the major technical benefits compared to a standard asynchronous solution:

  • Applications with high energy efficiency: 
    • At the nominal point, a higher degree of efficiency than with comparable efficiency class IE4 induction motors
    • In the partial load range, lower losses than with induction motors
  • High dynamics are achieved due to the lower intrinsic moment of inertia and the optimized control:
    • Higher acceleration rates are possible in cycle mode
    • More precise torque control due to highly dynamic vector control
  • Fast and easy commissioning due to input of the motor code in the converter
    • The constant torque-speed characteristic up to the rated speed allows the omission of an external fan
    • High overload due to high service factors is also permanently possible

Technical features of the motor:

  • System efficiency class IES 2, motor efficiency at the converter > comparable to IE4
  • Power rating: SH80, SH112: 0.55 – 4 kW    (2.2 kW und 3 kW are implemented in SH112)
  • Certificates: CE, UL/CSA. CCC is planned, a separate sales release will follow
  • With Pt1000 temperature sensor (M17)
  • Insulation system optimized for converter operation
  • Optionality: The mechanical design and options are largely identical to the catalog option, as is the case with 2KJ3 induction geared motors

Configuration notes

  • In the DT Configurator online tool, the geared motors can also be configured with VSD4000.
  • For the SIZER, the motors of VSD4000 (1FP1) Generation 2 must be designed without gearbox until release is granted.
    The selection "Mechanical system" allows to specify an "additional gearbox" including gear transmission ratio, moment of inertia and efficiency of a general gearbox. This can be determined using the gearbox catalog.
    When the motor has been designed, the configuration in the DTC must be completed.
  • The updated speed-torque characteristics of the motors being operated in converter mode are stated on the following slides.


Delivery release

The delivery release is planned to take place in two steps and will be announced in a separate product note:

  1. The release for geared motors is scheduled for March 1, 2019, except for the combination with the gearboxes Z19, D19, FZ29, FD29, B19, B29, C29.
  2. The release for all geared motors is scheduled to take place on April 1, 2019, including the combination with the gearboxes Z19, D19, FZ29, FD29, B19, B29, C29.
