Why is the CPU grayed out in the target system when doing an Online Upgrade with CPU 410 Expansion Packs via the Automation License Manager (ALM)?

  • Entry
  • Associated product(s)
There are two types of CPU 410 Expansion Pack - the CPU 410 Expansion Pack (PO) to upgrade the process objects of a CPU 410-5H and the CPU 410 Expansion Pack (PN Red) for activating the functional expansion to support redundant PROFINET subsystems (R1). As of the released firmware version they can be loaded into the SEC/CPU via the ALM.

Requirements for the Online Upgrade function
A CPU version that supports the Online Upgrade function must be configured and it must have the corresponding firmware version:

  • CPU 410 Expansion Pack (PO): CPU firmware V8.1 or higher
  • CPU 410 Expansion Pack (PN Red): CPU firmware V8.2 or higher

Description
If a CPU version that supports the Online Upgrade function is configured (hardware requirement fulfilled), but the firmware version of the CPU is lower than required, the CPU is grayed out in the target system and can therefore not be selected.

Remedy
To be able to use the Online Upgrade function you must configure the firmware version of the CPU required as minimum and load it into the CPU. Then, when connecting, the CPU is no longer grayed on the target system and can be selected for an upgrade with an Expansion Pack.
