Why does the error message 2988:2074 appear when quitting the window for setting the IO address of a fail-safe ET 200M module in the HW Config?

When setting the IO addresses of a fail-safe ET 200M module it might happen that you get the following error message when quitting the configuration window: Object Properties (2988:2074): "The IO address: [IO initial addresses] must not exceed the maximum process image of the CPU. For the set process image and used module the maximum permissible address is [xxxx]."

Description
In S7 F Configuration Pack V5.5 SP13 and higher, when quitting the configuration window for setting the IO address of an older fail-safe ET 200M module, the system checks whether there is another fail-safe ET 200M module with corresponding F destination address for the set IO addresses on this CPU: (IO address / 8 = F destination address).

Not only the set IO addresses are checked but also the address band from "set address" to "set address +7).
If a fail-safe ET 200M module with corresponding F destination address is found, the above-mentioned error message is displayed.

The test is made even if no address is changed. This check concerns the following fail-safe ET 200M modules:

Examples
Example 1: Adding a new fail-safe ET 200M module or changing the IO address of an existing fail-safe ET 200M:

  1. There is a fail-safe ET 200M module (One) with the F destination address 20.
  2. In the case of a new or existing fail-safe ET 200M module (Two) an IO address is assigned in the range of 160 to 167.
  3. The error message appears when the input window is quit.

Example 2: Opening the IO address setting of a fail-safe ET 200M module:

  1. There is a fail-safe ET 200M module (One) with the F destination address 20.
  2. The address setting of a fail-safe ET 200M module (Two) with an IO address in the range of 160 to 167 is opened.
  3. The error message appears when the input window is quit.

Remedy options
Depending on the status of the project and the changes to be made you have the following options:

1. Quit the window for setting the IO addresses
If the window for setting the IO addresses was opened only for checking or opened unintentionally, you can quit the window with the "Cancel" button.
Under certain circumstances it is necessary to close the HW Config so that the next time the module properties are opened the window with the "General" settings opens.

2. Switch the operating mode of the fail-safe ET 200M module to "Standard mode"

Proceed as follow to change the IO addresses of one of these F-DIs:

  1. Change the operating mode of the fail-safe ET 200M module to "Standard mode" ("Object Properties > Parameters > Operating Mode").
  2. Change the IO address ("Object Properties > Addresses").
  3. Switch the operating mode of the fail-safe ET 200M module back to "Safety mode" ("Object Properties > Parameters > Operating Mode").

3. Change the F destination address of the second fail-safe ET 200M module (temporarily or permanently)
You can set the desired IO address on a fail-safe ET 200M module (One) by temporarily or permanently changing the F destination address on the fail-safe ET 200M module (Two).

Proceed as follows for this:

1.  Find the fail-safe ET 200M module with the corresponding F destination address:
  • Print your hardware configuration "HW Config > Station > Print").
  • Under Print Range you select the option "Module description".
  • As printer you select a file format in which you can browse.
  • Search for the following items: "F destination address" or "F_Dest_Add".

2.  Change the F destination address of the second fail-safe ET 200M module to a free address outside the relevant address band
    ("Object Properties > Parameters > F Parameters > F_Dest_Add").

3.  Change the IO address of the fail-safe ET 200M module (One) ("Object Properties > Addresses").

4.  Change the F destination address of the second fail-safe ET 200M module back again if necessary
     ("Object Properties > Parameters > F Parameters > F_Dest_Add").

4. Settings for the F destination address
Use the F destination addresses from the upper range of the F destination addresses (example: 800 .. 1022).
In this way you can all the IO address lower than 6400 for F modules (6400 / 8 = 800).

Note on changing the F destination address

  • If there are changes to the F destination addresses, then the F signature also changes.
  • When the logical addresses change, the symbolic names are lost. With this the channel drivers connected to the tags also lose their data.
