Sales release and download of firmware 3.1.40 for CP 1242-7 V2, CP 1243-7 LTE, CP 1243-1, CP 1243-8 IRC
Firmware version 3.1.40 is available for download for the following S7-1200 communication modules:
CP 1242-7 GPRS V2 (6GK7242-7KX31-0XE0)
CP 1243-7 LTE EU (6GK7243-7KX30-0XE0)
CP 1243-7 LTE US (6GK7243-7SX30-0XE0)
CP 1243-1 (6GK7243-1BX30-0XE0)
CP 1243-8 IRC (6GK7243-8RX30-0XE0)
The firmware contains general improvements to the product quality and serves to upgrade existing devices of the above-mentioned products.
In particular, project download in the TIA Portal and the connection to Sinema Remote Connect with fallback feature have been improved.
STEP 7 V15 or higher must be used to configure the modules with firmware 3.1.X.
The existing firmware version 3.0 is still used in the TIA Portal to configure the module CP 1242-7 (6GK7242-7KX31-0XE0).
The firmware is exclusively compatible with devices of the above-mentioned products, which have hardware version 2.

You can either install the firmware update via the web server or via the STEP 7 online diagnostics functions, or create a SIMATIC memory card from the Siemens customer support website from which you can download the firmware update. This process is described in the S7-1200 system manual.
If you use a SIMATIC memory card for the installation of the firmware update, the retentive memory is retained. However, if you use the web server or the STEP 7 online diagnostics functions for the installation of the update, the retentive memory is lost.
If you close the web server while executing a firmware update via the web server, you cannot switch the operating mode of the CPU to RUN. In this case, you have to turn the CPU off and on again in order to switch it to the operating mode RUN.
