Firmware V3.2.1 for SIMATIC RF610R, RF615R, RF650R, RF680R, RF685R.

The most important changes are EtherNet/IP and PROFIBUS for the compact readers SIMATIC RF610R and RF615R as well as the support of Secure Events according to IEC 62443.


Effective immediately, firmware V3.2.1 for the UHF RFID readers SIMATIC RF610R, RF615R, RF650R, RF680R and RF685R is available for download.

The most important changes between V3.1 and V3.2:

  • PROFIBUS and EtherNet/IP for compact readers
    The compact readers SIMATIC RF610R and RF615R can be addressed over EtherNet/IP with this firmware. They can also be connected to PROFIBUS via the ASM 456 communication module.

  • Secure Events
    The firmware enables the logging and forwarding of Secure Events according to IEC 62443 to increase IT security during simultaneous use of the local user administration.

  • New radio profiles
    The firmware contains selectable radio profiles for Singapore and Vietnam. The approvals by the respective regulation bodies are still pending but expected during the course of the year. The current status of the radio approvals can be checked at any time online at https://www.siemens.com/rfid-approvals.

  • Antenna test
    The sensitivity of the antenna test can be adjusted within the permitted limits and allows for the suppression of faulty alarms in environments with a high concentration of metals.


With respect to the user application, firmware V3.2.1 is backward compatible, which means a firmware update does not require any changes to the user program. Exceptions:

  • Internet Explorer in version 10 or later is required to correctly display the web-based user interface (WBM). Internet Explorer version 9 is no longer supported.

  • If the local user administration in the WBM is enabled on the reader, the configuration can no longer be read from the reader and written back to the reader with TIA Portal in versions V15.1 and lower.

  • If the local user administration is enabled, the passwords set at the factory must be changed during initial access.

Update process

The firmware can be updated via the web-based user interface (WBM):

1. Open Internet browser (e.g. MS Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox)
2. Enter the IP address of the reader in your browser address bar -> User interface of the reader appears
3. Select the firmware file under "Firmware update" in the "System" menu
4. Update -> The update process may take a few minutes.
5. To ensure the correct display of the WBM, all caches and cookies of the browser used must be deleted after the update.
