SINAMICS G120X: Information on allowed environmental conditions, 3C2 and 3C3 classification

  • Entry
  • Associated product(s)
The G120X Control Units and the Power modules PM240-2 (FSD-FSG) power modules meet the requirements of Class 3C3, all other products in Class 3C2.

The IEC 60721-3-3 standard classifies environmental conditions.

The EN 60721-3-3:1995-09 standard defined classes for the concentration of chemically active substances: the 3C1 to 3C4 classification. It defined the concentration of various harmful gases.
Although the classification in the current standard IEC 60721-3-3:2020-05 has been replaced by more general descriptions, this classification is still relevant in practice.

The SINAMICS G120X inverters are subjected to accelerated lifetime tests to indicate how a device behaves in an atmosphere with gases according to the 3C2/3C3 classification.

These tests will not be carried out with all gas. Our experience shows that certain gases attack copper as well as components, and we only test with these gases. Ozone, for example, only insignificantly damages a drive, while sulphur dioxide produces an acid that attacks copper.

To increase the service life of the inverters, the printed circuit boards and other components receive a protective UV coating which is UV cured.

The development of the SINAMICS G120X took into account the environmental conditions according to the 3C2/3C3 classification.
The G120X Control Units and the Power modules PM240-2 (FSD-FSG) power modules meet the requirements of Class 3C3, all other products in Class 3C2.
