Opening a saved csv file in Excel is showing strange values and dates in columns.

Problem:

Opening a saved csv file in Excel is showing strange values and dates in columns.

Reason / solution:

The export file uses a full stop ‘.’ as decimal separator. Depending on the local settings in Excel a comma ‘,’ is expected as separator. A proper import is possible following these steps.

Don’t double click on the file, open Excel and select File, Open. This will start the import wizard. Select next to go to step 2. Here you have to select Semicolon as delimiter.

Click Next to go to step 3. Select Advanced and change the Decimal and Thousands separator.
