What settings are to be made when connecting a printer to a Windows-based panel?

Configuration:
Except in the case of an Ethernet connection, the printer is configured entirely in the Control Panel of the SIMATIC HMI operator panel.

  • Double-click on the "Printer" icon and the printer configuration dialog opens.

Serial port RS232

  • You must set the printer language, printer port, paper size, orientation (portrait or landscape), color or black-and-white print and the quality of the printout.
  • Use the IF2 or IF1A port for connecting the printer via the serial interface. The pin assignments are also in the Printer list.

Notes:
In order to be able to use the serial interface on the operator panel (IF 2) for communication with the printer, you must clear the check mark for "Remote Control" under "Serial" in the "Transfer Settings" dialog.

USB interface

  • You must set the printer language, printer port, paper size, orientation (portrait or landscape), color or black-and-white print and the quality of the printout.
  • Use the USB1 port for connecting the printer via the USB interface.

Ethernet interface - Network printer

  • The settings required to print with a SIMATIC HMI operator panel on a network printer are given in Entry ID: 18720136.

Ethernet interface - Print server (as from WinCC Flexible 2008 SP1)

  • You must set the printer language, printer port, paper size, orientation (portrait or landscape), color or black-and-white print and the quality of the printout.
  • You must select the "PrintSever" port for printing on a print server via Ethernet.
  • In the "IP:Port:" input field you enter the IP address and the port for communication with the print server.
    Use ":"as separator character between IP address and port; for example: "192.168.56.23:9100"
  • The print server uses the "RAW" mode.

  • In this case, the operator panel must be configured for network operation. The necessary settings are in the device manual concerned in each case.
