QUESTION:
In which peripheral areas can I operate the analog block 466?

ANSWER:
There are two different AE466, 6ES5 466-3LA11 and 6ES5 466-4UA11.
The older 466-3LA11 can only be operated in the area P and Q .
The newer 466-4UA11 (since 1.7.98), in contrast, allows to use the areas IM3 and IM4. The DIP switch assignments have changed here significantly in parts.

S5-135U/155U
Please see the product supplement! The manuals of the U periphery only describe the older block! The following statements on the DIP switch position S9 are valid here too.

In the SIMATIC S5-135U / 155U system manual both blocks are described. It is available to you in the Entry-ID: 1085837

Analog Input 6ES5466-3LA11

  • Chapter 9.6.3: "Startup for Analog Input 466-3LA11" - Table "Setting of the Block Address (1)"
Only one statement is made regarding the switch position S9, if the block is operated in (extension rack) or (central rack), and no statement on area P or Q.
  • Operation in Central Rack:
When the DIP switches S9.8 and S9.9 are in position "ON", the block in the central rack operates in area P. If the area Q is used, only the DIP switch S9.8 needs to be put in postition "OFF".
  • Operation in Extension Rack with IM300/312 and IM301/310:
The switch position S9 is not correct.
The DIP switches S9.8 and S9.9 must be put to "OFF". It can only be used in area P.
  • Operation in Extension Rack with IM304/314; IM 307/317 and IM308/318:
When DIP switches S9.8 and S9.9 are in position "ON", the block in the extension rack is operating in area P.
If the area Q is used, only the DIP switch S9.8 needs to be put in postition "OFF".

Analog Input 6ES5466-4UA11

  • Chapter 9.6.4: "Startup of the Analog Block 6ES5466-4UA11" - "Setting of the Block Starting Address" - Table: "Setting of the Connection Type"
The table contains the switch position S9 for areas P, Q, IM3, IM4.

S5-115U
Analog Input 6ES5466-3LA11:

In the SIMATIC S5-115U system manual with CPU945 only block 466-3LA11 is described. This manual is available to you by the Entry-ID: 1086944

  • Chapter 10.6.2: "Startup of the 6ES5466-3LA11 Analog Input Module"
    - Table 10.16: "Setting the Connection Type and Address Range"
    - Table 10.17: "Setting the Module Starting Address (P area)"
    - Table 10.18: "Setting the Module Starting Address (Q area)"

The details in the manual on the CPU945 regarding the switch position S9 are correct.
