  • Entry
  • Associated product(s)

As from the end of November 2003 the SIMATIC Box and Panel PCs will be equipped with new CD R/RW/DVD Combo drives. Information regarding system compatibility is provided below.

Due to a product discontinuation of the existing drives by our sub-supplier, new CD R/RW/DVD Combo drives and new CD ROM recording software will be used as of November 2003.

Affected drives/software:

  • New:
Toshiba CD ROM Combo SD-R 2512 with Pinnacle V7.06
    software
Affected SIMATIC PC products:
  • SIMATIC Box PC 620 (6ES7647-5....-...0)
  • SIMATIC Box PC 840 (6ES7647-4....-...0)
  • SIMATIC Panel PC 670 (6AV772...-....)
  • SIMATIC Panel PC 670 (6AV773...-....)
  • SIMATIC Panel PC 870 (6AV770...-....)
  • SIMATIC Panel PC 870 (6AV771...-....)

In view of the fact that as yet no universal hardware/software standard has established itself with respect to CD ROM recording drives, a change of a drive usually means inhomogeneous functions. The result is that e.g. the "old" recording software sometimes cannot identify the new recording hardware at all, or only with limitations. The intention of the technical product information below is to point out the specific technical and operating system changes the new CD ROM recorders will bring.

The existing Restore CD ROMs can be used with the new CD ROM drive
The operating system specific "Restore CD ROMs" supplied with the PCs to restore the as shipped software status will not be changed, because the new CD ROM drives cause no restrictions of the functions.
