The new SIMATIC BOX PC 840 V2 with Intel Pentium 4 microprocessor technology has been released for delivery.

The salient features of the SIMATIC Box PC 840 V2 are:

  • Expandability (5 slots)
  • High performance
  • Robust design

It provides machine, system and panel builders with an industrial PC platform for:

  • Measurement and control of process and machine data, e.g. redundant process control system or transport systems in manufacturing plants
  • Operator input and control tasks with separate displays or monitors, e.g. concrete-making machines
  • Data acquisition and data processing, e.g. acquisition of operational data, distributed process control.

The SIMATIC Box PC 840 has a CE label for use in industrial areas and in domestic and business areas and can therefore be used not only in industry, but also in building automation or in public buildings.

The new SIMATIC Box PC 840 V2 (6ES7647-6M....-....) is mounting compatible to the previous SIMATIC Box PC 840 (6ES7647-4....-...0) and replaces the latter.

The new SIMATIC Box PC 840 V2 is service friendly and scalable, as was its predecessor, the SIMATIC Box PC 840. A special feature is the increased system performance as a result of the new motherboard, which is based on Intel Pentium 4 microprocessor technology and still has ISA slots in addition to to-day's normal PCI slots. High-performance Intel microprocessors (Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz) from the Embedded Linie ensure a long-term and stable product design in conjunction with the ISA slots. When used with a Pentium 4 Mobile 2.2 GHz microprocessor, the SIMATIC Box PC 840 V2 can be operated at ambient temperatures of up to 55o C, or with a 24V DC power supply. The innovation mainly affects the size of the main memory (now up to 3 Gbytes) and the support of high-performance USB V2.0 peripherals (e.g. external hard disk for data backup). The available configuration options include hard disks (40 or 80 Gbytes), optical drives (CD-ROM or DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo) and a Profibus interface, as well as a graded concept to increase system availability by means of mirror disks (RAID1), SIMATIC PC DiagMonitor (diagnostics and signalling software) and SIMATIC PC ImageCreator (data backup software).

Due to its robust design, the SIMATIC Box PC 840 V2 will perform even under adverse conditions: For example: Shock and vibration damping hard disk mountings, card retainers for the PC modules, temperature-controlled fans and an optimized heat dissipation concept. The wide-range power supply for 110/230 Volt AC will bridge short voltage outages of up to 20 ms acc. to Namur. Integrated, programmable monitoring functions for temperature, fan and program execution (watchdog) enable early detection and correction of faults.

The important highlights of the new SIMATIC Box PC 840 V2

  • Higher system performance and more functionality with State of the Art technology:
    • Intel Pentium 4 up to 2.4GHz
    • Front Side Bus (FSB) up to 533 MHz
    • Main memory expansion up to 3 Gbytes
    • High-speed USB 2.0 interfaces (up to 480 Mbps) to connect external hard disks or optical drives
    • Booting capability via external USB drives
    • Improved graphics functionality acc. to AGP 4x standard
    • New DVI-I monitor interface to connect DVI and VGA monitors
  •  High product continuity due to long-term assurance of  hardware functionality
