What are the differences between theAutomation License Manager (ALM) and SIMATIC Logon?

The Automation License Manager is the tool supplied for STEP 7 V5.3 for managing the License Keys in STEP 7. The use of SIMATIC Logon requires a fee. It provides user administration for both the SIMATIC Software and the License Keys. The following brief description of the functions shows the differences between both programs.

SIMATIC Logon is a software-package that assigns authorizations for SIMATIC applications and facility areas. It includes following components:

  • SIMATIC Logon Service
    The basis package with central access protection for SIMATIC applications and plant areas.
  • SIMATIC Logon Service STEP 7.
    An option package for embedding SIMATIC Logon Service into the SIMATIC Manager.
  • SIMATIC Logon Admin Tool - permits tasks administration.
    An option package that facilitates the assignment of authorizations (Windows-Groups, function-related rights , ...) for the tasks of an application (SIMATIC BATCH, WinCC, ...). 
    The access protection can be started by logging into the Logon-feature (keyboard), via a chip card-reader or via other devices.
