S5-135U/155U: Multiprocessor Mode with IM308C

QUESTION:  
What to observe when using IM308C in multiprocessor operation with the CPUs of the S5-135U/155U? Where do I find the respective information?

ANSWER:  
The rules of how to operate the IM308C in the multiprocessor mode with two to four CPUs you find in the manual "Distributed I/O System ET 200" as well as further comprehensive information in general on the multiprocessor mode in the programming instruction of the CPUs of the series S5-135U/155U.

General Rules:
Extract out of the manual "Distributed Periphery", Chapter 6.7.2 Multiprocessor Mode:

  • Multiprocessor mode is only permitted in case of linear addressing (area P and Q) or when addressing is via FB IM308C.
  • Nevertheless, if it is to be addressed via pages, accesses of the CPUs on the IM 308C with semaphors must be coordinated. This means: at one point in time only one CPU can access on pages.
  • Digital inputs/ outputs can be processed by several CPUs.
  • FB IM308C can be called in multiprocessor mode. Data consistency at maximum by byte can be ensured. At any point in time a locking of semaphors must ensure that only one CPU addresses the FB IM308C. Semaphor handling in S5 program with SES (setting a semaphor) and SEF (release of a semaphor)
  • If addressing is done via pages and via FB IM308C, different semaphors can be used.
  • If a CPU of the series S5-135U is operated in the multiprocessor mode with a CPU of the series S5-155U the following holds:
    • In COM PROFIBUS the S5-135U must be selected als type of host with master parameter multiprocessor mode.
    • There must not be any entries in the DB1 of the CPU of the series S5-155U (digital inputs, digital outputs).
    • With the CPU of the series S5-155U access is only possible via direct load and transfer commands.
    • With CPU of the series S5-135U addresses are allowed in the process image.
