What should you watch out for when using the function block FB55 "IP_CONFIG" to configure an Industrial Ethernet CP?

Description
Function block FB55 "IP_CONFIG" assigns the configuration data to the Industrial Ethernet CP via the user program of the CPU.
The configuration data like IP address and communication connections are stored in a data block (DB). The FB55 "IP_CONFIG" is called in the user program of the CPU and transfers the configuration data to the Industrial Ethernet CP.

The Industrial Ethernet CPs below support the function block FB55 "IP_CONFIG".

Proceed as follows so that the Industrial Ethernet CP applies the configuration data from the user program of the CPU.

  1. Double-click the Industrial Ethernet CP or PROFINET interface of the Industrial Ethernet CP in the Hardware Configuration to open the Properties dialog.
  2. Select the "IP Configuration" tab and enable the "Set IP address in user program" option.

In this case the IP address is assigned to the Industrial Ethernet CP only at runtime, i.e. although an IP address for the Industrial Ethernet CP is entered in the Hardware Configuration, the Industrial Ethernet CP remains in "STOP" mode after the configuration has been downloaded.

Only once you have called FB55 "IP_CONFIG" in the user program of the CPU does the Industrial Ethernet CP apply the IP address from the data block and switch to the "RUN" mode.

Meaning of status values 8B10 (hex) and 80A4 (hex) at the output parameter STATUS of FB55 "IP_CONFIG"
If the "Set IP address in user program" option is not enabled in the Hardware Configuration, then it was not possible to call the FB55 block in the user program of the CPU. This means that a corresponding status value is output at the output parameter STATUS of FB55 "IP_CONFIG".

The status value 8B10 (hex) is output at the output parameter STATUS of FB55 "IP_CONFIG" for Industrial Ethernet CPs of the S7-300. The status value 8B10 (hex) means:

  • There is no presetting for configuring via the user program.

The status value 80A4 (hex) is output at the output parameter STATUS of FB55 "IP_CONFIG" for Industrial Ethernet CPs of the S7-400. The status value 80A4 (hex) comes from the lower-level SFC and means:

  • Communication error on the K bus or
  • There is no presetting for configuring via the user program.

Reason for the different status values for S7-300 and S7-400
The different status values are due to the different systems for data transfer between CPU and CP in the S7-300 and S7-400.
