SIMATIC 505 Product Family Maturity Announcement

  • Entry
  • Associated product(s)

Beginning February 1, 2005 Siemens will be maturing the remaining products in the SIMATIC 505 product line in accordance with the Siemens product life cycle policy.  Additional details are provided below.

Since its introduction in 1985, the SIMATIC 505 product line has been supported by many loyal customers.  However, it has become increasingly difficult to maintain the technical foundation of the product line at competitive prices.  Component obsolescence and advancing technology have driven the need to mature this product family.

Additional materials about the product migration are available on the Internet in the folder: 505-S7 Migration Support

Product Maturity Overview:

  • The SIMATIC 505 product line will be declared a mature product family on February 1, 2005.  The SIMATIC 505 products will continue to be available as usual, until January 31, 2006. You will experience no change in either delivery or availability.  The affected products products will no longer appear in paper catalogs, price lists or Internet listings.

  • Beginning on February 1, 2006, the products will be re-classified as spare parts, with the product  no longer being actively manufactured.  As a “ spare part” in accordance with the Siemens product life cycle policy, products will continue to be supported for a minimum of 9 years.  A pre-determined inventory will be established to support future spares demand.  Customers should not have difficulty obtaining needed spares during this period provided quantities are within the normal scope of spare parts orders.

  • In the unlikely event that this inventory is depleted, products will be made available as either refurbished or repaired with exchange. For instance, if at some point the continued supply of spare parts becomes problematic due to unanticipated demand, customers will be required to return their defective module as an exchange for a spare part.

Making a transition to new technology requires careful planning to avoid problems and make maximum use of new features and capabilities.  Siemens regional support centers throughout the world are available to support you in the migration of your applications.

For those customers opting to transition to our current technology platforms, SIMATIC S7 or SIMATIC PCS7, please contact your local Siemens representative to learn more about the migration services available as well as the advantages offered by implementing a Totally Integrated Automation Solution from Siemens.
