PC-based Automation: Reporting Process Values via E-Mail with WinAC RTX and WinAC ODK

The following application shows you, how process values from the WinAC RTX controller can be reported worldwide via e-mail. The message texts and the e-mail receiver should be loaded from an editable list.

WinAC ODK (Open Development Kit) was used for the solution introduced here. WinAC ODK enables you to access the WinAC controller within a C/C++ application. In return, functions can be called from the S7 program in a C/C++ application. This C/C++ application is referred to as "ODK application" below.

Solution Requirements

This application comprises the following points:

  • Communication of the ODK application with the SIMATIC WinAC RTX controller via the SMX interface of the WinAC ODK.

  • The message texts and e-mail receiver are red in by the ODK application from a CSV file (comma-separated text file, can be read in with Microsoft Excel).

  • Sending of e-mails is controlled on the WinAC RTX controller via an FB.

  • Each (simple) MAPI-capable e-mail program can be used (here explained using the example of Microsoft Outlook Express, but also Netscape Mail or Mozilla Thunderbird)
