SIMATIC WinCC/Connectivity Pack V6.1 available now

  • Entry
  • Associated product(s)

Effective immediately, the SIMATIC WinCC/Connectivity Pack V6.1 is available for delivery. Please note that this new version REQUIRES WinCC V6 SP3. A corresponding, free-of-charge update from WinCC V6.x to SP3 can be requested through the Internet (article ID: 21220607). The Connectivity Pack V6.1 is also released for the operation with PCS7 V6.1. To simplify matters, the following will only make references to WinCC V6.0 SP3, but the statements equally apply to the operation with PCS7 V6.1. The Connectivity Pack V6.1 can not be installed on WinCC stations with version levels older than WinCC V6.0 SP3 (WinCC V6.0 or WinCC V5.x).

The SIMATIC WinCC/Connectivity Pack V6.1 can be requested as a free upgrade (outside of the EU, customs and shipping charges may be incurred)to the previously available Connectivity Pack versions 6.0 and 6.0 SP1 from the download area of the SIMATIC Customer Support Website (article ID: 21222193). To receive this free upgrade, the identification number of the original software delivery is required as proof of purchase. An automatic sending of the service pack on the basis of a prior hotfix delivery no longer occurs.

Within the framework of the WinCC Comprehensive Support, the delivery will take place automatically.

1.0 SIMATIC WinCC/Connectivity Pack V6.1 - What's new?

With Version 6.1, new functionalities for the access to the WinCC database (process value, alarm and user archives) are introduced.
This access can be used, for example, from standard applications that employ an OLE DB interface or from user-developed Visual Basic applications.

New functions include:

  • Integrated analysis functions for process value and alarm archives in the WinCC OLE DB Provider

  • Access to multiple archive tags with uniform timestamp and interpolation

  • Read and write access to user archives via Microsoft OLE DB

In addition, all corrections of the previously published hotfixes are being consolidated in V6.1.

1.1 Integrated Analysis Functions for Process Value and Alarm Archives in the WinCC OLE DB Provider

If analyses of the WinCC process value and alarm archives are to be performed with external tools (e.g. reporting tools or VB applications), the WinCC OLE DB now offers interfaces, with which statistical functions can be queried.

For process value archives, the values accumulated during a definable time period can be supplied to the analysis tool. The following functions are available:

  • Minimum
  • Maximum
  • Average
  • Sum of all values
  • Quantity of process values
  • Quantity of entries with the value "1", e.g. for querying binary tags
  • Statistical standard deviation
  • Statistical variance

For the analysis of alarms, the server already provides the quantity, duration and acknowledgment time. The following can be queried:

  • Alarm frequency
  • Cumulative duration from "Alarm appeared" until "Alarm cleared"
  • Average duration from "Alarm appeared" until "Alarm cleared"
  • Cumulative duration from "Alarm appeared" until initial acknowledgment
  • Average duration from "Alarm appeared" until initial acknowledgment
  • Cumulative duration from "Alarm appeared" until secondary acknowledgment
  • Average duration from "Alarm appeared" until secondary acknowledgment

Since the statistical computations are already performed at the server, the network load is considerably reduced during remote accesses to the database. In addition, complex analysis routines do not have to be performed on the client.

1.2 Query of multiple Process Values via WinCC OLE DB Provider

It is now possible to read the data of multiple archive tags when querying the WinCC OLE DB Provider.

The special feature is that the results can optionally be returned with a common timestamp as well as interpolated.
Example: The query of "Temperature1 and Temperature2 for the Time Period from 0:00 to 24:00, Time Difference of the Values 5 Minutes" returns the values of the two tags with identical timestamps at time intervals of 5 minutes.

1.3 Read and Write Access to User Archives via Microsoft OLE DB

In addition to the access to process value and alarm archives, the new version now also permits a read and write access to the user archives via Microsoft OLE DB. Keep in mind that changed user archives in a redundant system can not be synchronized via the Microsoft OLE DB Provider.

2.0 Upgrades and Compatibility to older Connectivity Pack Versions

An upgrade from the existing Connectivity Pack V6.0 SP1 to the Connectivity Pack V6.1 can be ordered from the download area of the Customer Support Website (article ID: !21222193!).

New Licensing Software

The Connectivity Pack V6.1 employs the Automation License Manager V2.0, which uses license keys instead of authorizations. The authorizations used up to the Connectivity Pack V6.0 SP1 continue to remain valid and can also be managed with the Automation License Manager. Please note that older Connectivity Pack 6.0 versions (V6.0, V6.0 SP1) do not accept Connectivity Pack V6.1 licenses. For system expansions in which an existing Connectivity Pack V6 installation is not to be upgraded to V6.1, Connectivity Pack V6.0 SP1 packages will continue to be available.

A detailed description on the topic of licensing can be found in the WinCC Information System as well as on the WinCC documentation CD-ROM.

    • WinCC V6.0 SP3 or File Server V6.0 SP3 (on the WinCC V6.0 SP3 CD-ROM)

The Connectivity Pack server can be installed on a WinCC machine or a long-term archive server (WinCC File Server with an SQL server instance).

3.3 Licensing

The WinCC Connectivity Pack is unlocked via the "WinCC/Connectivity Pack" license disk. This license is only required on the PC, whose data interfaces are to be accessed. The license does not differentiate among the quantity and type of simultaneous accesses.

A Connectivity Pack license is still required, even if the client application (OPC client or database client) runs locally on the same computer as the Connectivity Pack server.

In addition, each Connectivity Pack client (CP client) must be licensed via a WinCC CAL (Client Access License). This applies to Connectivity Pack clients on which no licensed installation of WinCC, Web Navigator, IndustrialDataBridge, Audit or Dat@Monitor is present (these products already come with a corresponding CAL). This CAL always applies to a SINGLE Connectivity Pack client. With it, this client can access any number of Connectivity Pack servers.
For applications with many accessing clients or in which the quantity of clients can not be determined/limited (e.g. when publishing archive data via a Web server), a processor-based CAL can be employed. This CAL always applies to one processor of a SINGLE WinCC RT machine/SINGLE long-term archive server (LAS). For more information, please consult the Delivery Release of the WinCC/CAL (article ID: 17624114).

If a Connectivity Pack license is present, the creation, reading and writing of customized database tables in the SQL server is permitted within the framework of the automation solution.

4.0 Delivery Scope and Ordering Data

The delivery of the Connectivity Pack V6.1 includes two CD-ROMs (Connectivity Pack product CD-ROM and MS SQL Server 2000 SP3 CD-ROM), a license disk and the license certificate. The documentation in German and English is contained on CD-ROM. A separate hardcopy version is not available.
