Operation of SIRIUS Load Feeder components in altitudes of up to 5000m above sea level

This FAQ contain the statements for reduction voltage, current, setting of load current and short-circuit breaking capacity depend on the sea level.

 

QUESTION:

Under what conditions is it permissible to operate SIRIUS Load Feeder components 3RA11, 3RA21, 3RV1, 3RV2, 3RT1, 3RT2, 3RU1, 3RU2, 3RB2 and 3RB3 site altitudes of 2000m to 5000m above sea level?

Excluded hereof are the following Circuit Breaker
3RV106, 3RV107, 3RV108, 3RV135, 3RV136, 3RV137, 3RV138.

 

 

ANSWER:  

For the operation of SIRIUS Load Feeder components 3RV10 to 3RV18, 3RV20 to 3RV28 MSP up to 100A, 3RT1. 3RT2, 3RH1, 3RH2 contactors, 3RU1, 3RU2, 3RB2 and 3RB3 overload relays in altitudes over 2000m* above sea level the following reductions apply:

Site altitudes up to 2500m above sea level:
- Reduction of rated insulation voltage to 0,93 x Ui
- Reduction of load current to 0,93 x Ie
- Setting of load current in thermally delayed overcurrent protection devices to 1,02 x Ie

- Short-circuit breaking capacities Icu and Ics: 90 % of normal value at sea level **

Site altitudes up to 3000m above sea level:
- Reduction of rated insulation ivoltage to 0,88 x Ui
- Reduction of load current to 0,88 x Ie
- Setting of load current in thermally delayed overcurrent protection devices to 1,05 x Ie

- Short-circuit breaking capacities Icu and Ics: 90 % of normal value at sea level **

Site altitudes up to 4000m above sea level:
- Reduction of rated insulation voltage to 0,79 x Ui
- Reduction of load current to 0,78 x Ie
- Setting of load current in thermally delayed overcurrent protection devices to 1,1 x Ie

- Short-circuit breaking capacities Icu and Ics: 80 % of normal value at sea level **

Site altitudes up to 5000m above sea level:
- Reduction of rated insulation voltage to 0,75 x Ui
- Reduction of load current to 0,7 x Ie
- Setting of load current in thermally delayed overcurrent protection devices to 1,15 x Ie

These ratings apply to a maximum ambient temperature of 40°C.

these altitudes are not suitable for vacuum switchgear!

* According IEC 60947-1, 6.1.2 Altitude:
The altitude of the site of installation does not exceed 2000m.

NOTE:
For equipment to be used at higher altitudes, it is necessary to take into account the reduction of the dielectric strength and the cooling effect of the air. Electrical equipment intended to operate under these conditions shall be designed or used in accordance with an agreement between manufacturer and user.
