Property Export/Import Variables (varexim.exe) WinCC Configuration Tool
Brief description

( 20 KB )
Fig. 01

The program exports all the connections, data structures and tags in corresponding ASCII files from an open project. You can then import these into a second project. The ASCII format permits you to process the files with a spreadsheet program before importing them again.

Note:
Always all the tags of the "WinCC Data Manager (Tag Management)" are exported. It is not possible to select specific tags. You have a choice of two options for importing tags:

  • Import (only those tags are imported into WinCC that do not yet exist there.)
  • Import overwrite (all the tags in the import file are imported to WinCC.)

The Configuration Tool is a simple and powerful tool for configuring mass data in WinCC. Microsoft Excel serves as user interface. In this way you can create a WinCC project in Microsoft Excel and use the operating advantages offered to you by Microsoft Excel.

Note:
The tool lets you read in the configuration data (Data Manager, Alarm Logging, Tag Logging and Text Library) for a WinCC project. The data can conveniently be edited in Excel. You can write either the changes only or all the data back to WinCC.

Tag reassigning No

Description:
It is not possible to assign a tag to another group or link. If a tag (including a structure tag) is to be assigned to a different link or group, that tag must be deleted in WinCC Explorer before importing the data. The tags are created again upon import.

Warning:
In this case any existing references in Tag Logging, Alarm Logging or the Text Library are lost.

Yes

Description:
It is possible to assign a tag to another group or link without deleting it first. Existing references in Tag Logging, Alarm Logging or Text Library are retained.

Renaming tags No

Description:
If a tag is to be renamed, it has to be newly created with a new tag import under another name. You must manually delete the tag with the old name.

Warning:
You must manually correct existing references in Tag Logging, Alarm Logging or Text Library.

Yes

Description:
It is possible to rename a tag without deleting it first. Existing references in Tag Logging, Alarm Logging or Text Library are retained.

Plausibility check
  • No plausibility check is made during editing of data, but only when data is imported.
  • When exporting/importing data, information and error messages are logged in log files. The contents of the log files can be displayed simply with a mouse-click.
The Configuration Tool assists in avoiding faulty or incomplete entries at the time the data is entered or changed. The following means are provided for this:
  • Drop-down list boxes
  • Automatic filling in
  • Unique name assignment
  • Data entry tips

Each page of the worksheet on which you are configuring data has an Error column. If there is an error, error texts are shown here.

Requirements
  • WinCC
  • It is not absolutely necessary to have WinCC installed. (If WinCC is not installed, WinCC data can only be edited in the WinCC Configuration Tool. In that case you cannot read data from an existing WinCC project or write data to a WinCC project.)
  • Refer also to the compatibility list in Entry ID: 64847781.
