QUESTION:
Why is the alarm 61014 "Retraction plane overshot" issued during thread cutting?

ANSWER:
Whether the retraction planes defined in the program header are overshot during thread cutting is checked only in the case of female threads.

First example: Female thread with the parameters
- Retraction plane in the X axis internal XRI = 7 mm absolute
- Retraction plane in the Z axis external ZRA = 3 mm absolute
- Thread reference point X0 = 9 mm absolute
- Thread reference point Z0 = 0 mm absolute
- Thread run-in W, thread infeed W2 or W = R = 3 mm
- Return distance V = 1 mm

Alarm 61014 is generated before the thread cutting when the retraction plane in the X axis is less than or equal to the retraction plane XRI (thread reference point X0 – 2 x return distance V must be greater than the retraction plane XRI)

Alarm 61014 is generated after thread cutting before approaching the retraction plane when as a result of the thread run-in W, W2 or W = R the retraction plane ZRA is reached or overshot.
(Thread reference point Z0 + W, W2 or W = R must be less than retraction plane ZRA)

Second example: Reverse side female thread with the parameters:
- Retraction plane in the Z axis internal ZRI -23 mm absolute
- Thread reference point Z0 = -20 mm absolute
- Thread run-in W, thread infeed W2 or W = R = 3 mm

Alarm 61014 is generated after the thread cutting before approaching the retraction plane when the retraction position in the Z axis is less than or equal to the retraction plane ZRI.
(Thread reference point Z0 – W, W2 or W = R must be greater than retraction plane ZRI)

Remedy:
Select retraction planes and return distance and thread run-in / infeed behavior so that the retraction planes XRI, ZRA and ZRI are not reached or overshot. A difference of 0.002 mm in the X axis and 0.001 mm in the Z axis is sufficient.

In the case of external thread cutting, the retraction planes are not monitored in the cycle.
