How do you set up Autostart for WinCC?

  • Entry
  • Associated product(s)
You can use the "Autostart" function to start WinCC with a specific project when the computer starts up.

There are two different ways of setting a WinCC Autostart. Either you use the WinCC tool "AutoStart Configuration" or the Autostart is written with the "AutoStartRT" tool into the communication setting of SIMATIC NET.

Depending on the version and operating mode of WinCCalways use only one of the two methods for configuring WinCC Autostart:

Use the "Autostart Configuration" tool without SIMATIC NET

  • WinCC V7.4 and higher (PCS 7 V8.2)
  • If you want to operate a WinCC project in the Service Mode (possible with WinCC V7.0 and higher)
  • In conjunction with SIMATIC NET (up to and including CD11/2003 SP1

Use the "AutoStartRT" tool with SIMATIC NET

  • WinCC V6.0 SP3 and higher (SIMATIC NET Edition 2005 and higher) to WinCC V7.3

Set up Autostart with the "Autostart Configuration" tool without SIMATIC NET in the WinCC Service Mode

Proceed as under "Set up Autostart with the "Autostart Configuration" tool without SIMATIC NET".

In Service Mode the only difference is the operating mode of WinCC:

  • On the server, the project is operated in WinCC Service Mode as Service Project.
  • The automatic start is executed without an interactive user being logged on.
  • The Service Project is activated automatically as soon as the server starts up. User inputs are not required.
  • WinCC Runtime starts as a service.

Further information about this is available in the WinCC Online Help and the associated manuals:

Note

After converting the Service Project to a Standard Project and vice versa you have to set up the "Autostart Configuration" again.

Set up Autostart with the "Autostart Configuration" tool with SIMATIC NET

  1. Open "Set Configuration Console PC Station" via the Windows Start menu.

    For Microsoft Windows 7 / Server 2008:

"START > All Programs > Siemens Automation > SIMATIC > SIMATIC NET > Set PC Station"

    For Microsoft Windows XP:
"START > SIMATIC > SIMATIC NET > Set PC Station"

    For Microsoft Windows Server 2003:
"START > SIMATIC > SIMATIC NET > Configuration Console" or
"START > SIMATIC > SIMATIC NET > Set PC Station"

  3. Click the the "New" button to insert a new application that is to be started automatically. A dialog opens in which you select and apply the WinCC application "<SIEMENS Installation Path> SIEMENS > WinCC > bin > AutoStartRT.exe".

  4. In the "Call parameters" input field you enter the parameters for the WinCC application "AutoStartRT.exe" (Step 2 - Fig. 01). Use the following syntax:

    <Drive>:\<Project path>\<Project name>.mcp /Active:yes /LANG=ENU /EnableBreak:no

    Note
The first parameter "<Drive>:\<Project path>\<Project name>.mcp" gives the complete path for the WinCC project to be started.

With the/Active parameter you decide whether the project is to be opened only in WinCC Runtime or whether the WinCC project is to be opened briefly and then closed again immediately.

    • /Active:yes
The WinCC project is opened only in WinCC Runtime. The WinCC Explorer is not started.
    • /Active:no
The WinCC project is opened briefly in the WinCC Explorer and then closed again immediately.

With the /LANG parameter you preselect the language for display of the "AutoStartRT" tool.

    • /LANG=DEU
      Runtime language is German
    • /LANG=ENU
      Runtime language is English

With the /EnableBreak parameter you enable/disable the "Cancel" button.

    • /EnableBreak:no
It is not possible to operate the "Cancel" button while "AutoStartRT" is being executed.
    • /EnableBreak:yes
It is possible to operate the "Cancel" button while "AutoStartRT" is being executed.

  5. Save the settings with the "Apply" button (Step 2 - Fig. 01). The next time the system is started up the WinCC tool "AutoStartRT" will be executed with the settings chosen.
