How can you transfer a WinCC flexible project via MPI/PROFIBUS to a Windows-based panel?

Instructions:
For transfer of a WinCC flexible configuration via MPI or PROFIBUS you must make settings on the Windows-based panel and on the configuration PC.

Note:

  • Direct transfer from the PC to the Windows-based panel via a PC adapter (RS232 -> MPI/PROFIBUS, USB -> MPI/PROFIBUS) is not supported.
  • Project transfer to a Micro Panel is not possible, because a Micro Panel doesn't have an MPI or PROFIBUS interface.
  • If you wish to integrate your configuration PC into an existing MPI/PROFIBUS network, you must transfer the bus settings of the available MPI/PROFIBUS subnet. Please note that the bus address of the PC in the MPI/PROFIBUS subnet must be unique.

Settings on the operator panel
The figures below are from the MP277. The illustrations might differ from operator panel to operator panel, because not all the functions are available for each operator panel.

Settings in "Control Panel"
Open the Transfer dialog in the "Control Panel".

The MPI/PROFIBUS transfer is enabled under "Channel 2". For this you set Channel 2 to "MPI/PROFIBUS". For Channel 2 you also set a check mark for "Enable Channel" and if you wish, "Remote Control".

Note:
The "Remote Control" option permits automatic termination of Runtime on the panel when transfer is triggered via the development environment of WinCC flexible. The panel then automatically switches to Transfer mode.

Note:
In the case of transfer via a TS adapter with modem you should enable "Remote Control", because otherwise the panel does not switch automatically into the Transfer mode.

  • Open the advanced settings by clicking on the "Advanced" button (Fig. 02).
  • Define whether the WinCC flexible project is to be transferred via "MPI" or "PROFIBUS".
  • Then click the "Properties" button.

Version A - MPI

MPI settings
If you wish to transfer a project via PROFIBUS - Version B, then you can skip this point and go directly to Point 3b.

The following dialog (Fig. 04) shows the current MPI bus parameters of the panel.

If the panel is the only master on the bus, then set the check mark for "Panel is the only master on the bus" and assign a unique bus address (Address) for the device.

Note:
If it is not necessarily required by the system to change the other network parameters, you should use the default network parameters given.
These network parameters must match the settings in the SIMATIC station (e.g.: CPU or CP).

Note:

Version B - PROFIBUS

PROFIBUS settings
If you are using Version A via MPI, you can skip this point and go directly to Point 4.

The following dialog shows the current PROFIBUS parameters of the panel.

If the panel is the only master on the bus, then set the check mark for "Panel is the only master on the bus" and assign a unique bus address (Address) for the device.

Note:
If it is not necessarily required by the system to change the other network parameters, you should use the default network parameters given.
The network parameters must match the settings in the SIMATIC station (e.g.: CPU or CP).

Note:

4 Close the dialog window
Close all the open dialogs with "OK".
Also close the "Control Panel" and enable the Transfer mode.

Settings on the configuration PC
For communication between panel and configuration computer you must set the bus parameters as on the panel (except for the node address).

Version A - MPI

Set interface parameters

If you wish to transfer a project via PROFIBUS - Version B, then you can skip this point and go directly to Point 3b.

  • Click the "Properties..." button. (Fig. 08).
  • Set the check mark for "PG/PC is the only master on the bus" if no other master is connected in the subnet.
  • Change the network-related parameters - except the node address - to match the settings on the panel for MPI (Fig. 4).
  • Close the Properties dialog box with "OK".

Note:
The node address must be unique, i.e. it must not be used by any other nodes in the subnet. Please note that the address must not be greater than the highest permissible Highest Station Address (HSA).

Version B - PROFIBUS

Interface parameters
If you are using Version A via MPI, you can skip this point and go directly to Point 4.
  • Perform the same steps as for the MPI interface parameters (Point 3a).
  • The network-related settings for the PROFIBUS communication - except the node address - must match the interface settings on the panel (Fig. 5).
  • Close the Properties dialog box with "OK".

Note:
The node address must be unique, i.e. it must not be used by any other nodes in the subnet. Please note that the address must not be greater than the highest permissible Highest Station Address (HSA).

4 SIMATIC NET Diagnostics
  • Open the "Diagnostics" to test the MPI/PROFIBUS connection between the PC and the panel.
  • Perform network diagnostics for the CP by clicking on the "Test" button.

Note:
If the operating mode is not "OK", check the hardware and the bus parameters (Points 3a and 3b) in the PG/PC interface. If necessary, check the CPU settings in the Hardware Configuration of the SIMATIC Manager and the settings on the panel.

Note:
More information on error messages is available via Help (see button) in the dialog window under "Error messages > Error message".
In order to determine the current bus parameters of a subnet you can also proceed as described in Point 5:

  • If the operating mode or network diagnostics is "OK", then click on the "Read" button. The table shows the bus node that can be reached (Address 10 = Panel).
  • Close the open dialogs with "OK".
5 Determine bus parameters
You can skip this point if the operating mode is "OK" in Point 4 and the bus nodes are displayed after read-out.

Set the CP adapter of the interface parameterization to "AUTO" and click the "Properties..." button.

Note:
Via the "Bus Parameters..." button you can have all the relevant bus parameters displayed in detail.

Note:
If the bus parameters cannot be determined or a synchronization error occurs, then you should check the following points:

  • PROFIBUS or MPI cable (replace where necessary).
  • Correct setting of the terminators.
  • Bus parameters on the panel and in the PG/PC interface.
  • Physical connection between the CP and the panel.
  • Power supply of the SIMATIC stations.
  • If necessary, compile and transfer the Hardware Configuration in the SIMATIC Manager for all relevant SIMATIC stations (e.g. CPU).

Settings in WinCC flexible
As an option you can also integrate the WinCC flexible project into a STEP 7 project. The two possible versions are explained in the following table.

  • In the project tree structure under "Communication" you select the "Connections" tab.
  • In WinCC flexible you insert a new connection in the menu under "Insert > New Object - Connection".
    Alternatively you can double-click an empty field in the table in the "Connections" tab and create a new connection.

Version A - Non-integrated project

Define parameters
If you have created an integrated WinCC flexible project or would like to integrate it into STEP 7, you can skip this point and go directly to Point 2b.

Define the relevant parameters that you have already specified in the panel and in the PG/PC interface. The MPI or PROFIBUS protocol can be defined separately under the option Network > Profile.
For networking with MPI or PROFIBUS you need the interface IF1 B (for panels) or MPI/DP (for PC-based operator panels).

Note:
If you do not implement an S7-300/400 CPU as communications partner, then change the communication driver.

Version B - Integrated project

Defining the station
You can skip this section and go directly to Point 3 if you do not want to use an integrated project.

If you have not already inserted the project in the SIMATIC Manager, you can do this via the WinCC flexible menu "Project > Integrate in STEP 7...".

  • Open NetPro in the SIMATIC Manager. Alternatively you can also open the Hardware Configuration of the HMI operator panel.

  • In the NetPro dialog (Fig. 18) you double-click the HMI MPI/DP interface of the "SIMATIC HMI Station(1)".
  • Click on the "Properties..." button in the Properties dialog window of the HMI MPI/DP interface.
  • Mark the MPI(1) subnet of the HMI station then click "OK".

    Note:
    You can use the "New..." button to add more subnets. Note here that the HMI station and associated SIMATIC station must be in the same subnet or connected together via a routing-compatible station. More information on S7 Routing is available in Entry ID: 22255588.

  • Close the dialog window with "OK".
  • Save and compile your configuration via the menu "Network > Save and compile...".
  • Where applicable, transfer your changed hardware configuration to all the relevant SIMATIC stations and terminate NetPro.
  • Via the corresponding subnet you select the station with which the operator panel is to communicate.

3 Project transfer
  • Open the dialog window under "Project > Transfer > Transfer Settings...". Alternatively you can also open the transfer settings via the toolbar (1).
     
  • In the "Transfer Settings" dialog you select the relevant operator panel (2) - only necessary in the case of multiple operator panels.
     
  • Select MPI/DP (3) as the Transfer mode and enter the node address of the operator panel.
     
    Note:
    For the possible transfer options please refer to the relevant manual or Entry ID: 19109408
     
  • With the "Transfer" button (4) you can now transfer your configuration to the panel.

Note:
If you do not want to transfer yet, you can save the settings with "Apply".
With the first transfer of the project to an operator panel you should disable the "Delta transfer" option and enable the "Overwrite password list" option.

Note:
After transfer the panel adopts the parameters set in the "Connections" tab.
