840D: Release of NCU System Software 7.4 Version 07.04.08 for General Availability

NCU system software 7.4, Version 07.04.08, of SINUMERIK 840D/DE has been released and is available since August 14, 2006. This version is an update including improvements of the drive software.

Thermal motor protection
This monitoring function protects the motor from permanent thermal overload in order to ensure that the permissible temperature limit is not exceeded. It is an extension to the temperature detection function known so far (temperature sensor).
For thermal motor protection, a model temperature is calculated inside the motor depending on the motor type, the measured motor current, the KTY motor temperature sensor (if existing) and the shutdown temperature threshold.
When using the KTY motor temperature sensor, motor overloads can no longer occur even upon switch-on while the motor is already warm.

Companies who have signed software upgrade contracts will receive 07.04.08 by
July 2006.

For the 2 /6 /12 and 31-axis software, companies ordering the "current software version" will still receive the "single license" software version 6.5 V06.05.36 as substitution; V07.04.08 will be delivered as a substitution for the NCU software for 4-axis motors, grinding variant.

5. System Dependencies / Boundary Conditions with Software Version 7.4 V07.04.07

NCU system software 7.4 is delivered on 16 MB PC cards. NCK-OA customers must use the empty 16 MB 6FC5247-0AA11-1AA3 card.

The G643 function "Block-Internal Smoothing" has been released for applications used for tool change (e.g. optimizations for approaching the tool change position). However, this function has not been released for applications in the machining process.

-

The G644 function "Smoothing with Maximum Dynamic Response" has been released for applications used for tool change (e.g. optimizations for approaching the tool change position). However, this function has not been released for applications in the machining process.

-

The FCUB and FLIN functions with COMPCAD compressor have not been released.

-

PROFIBUS master-slave coupling with NCU *.4 as slave has not been released.

-

ERLde80662:       
Combined with "Travel to Fixed Stop" and rotation, system error 550010 may occur.

ERLde87648:
TOOLMAN: Override not effective when combined with handling transformer

$AA_POWER Variable:

The following signals cannot be used for diagnostic purposes:

- $AA_Power
- Active power servo-trace signal
- Active power DAC signal

As an alternative, the active power can be determined from the measured torque setpoint and the speed (Servo-Trace, DAC): 

PNominal(active) = MNominal * 2Pi * N / 60
