Which options do you have for accessing PROFIBUS devices from a PC behind an IWLAN/PB link PN IO or an IE/PB link PN IO?

  • Относится к продукту(ам)

Configuration notes:
The figure below describes the hardware setup and the connection of the devices.

Fig. 01

Essentially, you have two options:

  1. Configure the PC as PROFINET IO controller and link the IE/PB Link or IWLAN/PB Link as PROFINET IO device. DP slaves and I slaves are accessed via the DP master.
  2. Configure the PC as PC station and link the IE/PB Link or IWLAN/PB Link as gateway. You can then access CPUs on the PROFIBUS with an OPC client via routed S7 connections. It is not possible to access the DP slaves and I slaves.

How to configure your IWLAN/PB link or IE/PB link as a PROFINET device:

No. Procedure
1

Use STEP 7 or NCM PC to create a new project with a PC station.

2 In the SIMATIC Manager, assign a device name and IP address to the IE/PB Link or IWLAN/PB Link via the menu "PLC > Edit Ethernet Node...".

Fig. 02

3 Open the hardware configuration of the PC station. Insert an OPC server and an IE network card into the PC station by drag-and-drop.

Fig. 03

4 In the PC station, right-click on the IE network card and select the menu "Insert PROFINET IO System" to insert a new PROFINET IO system.

Fig. 04

5 In the hardware catalog, select the IE/PB link or IWLAN/PB link under "PROFINET IO > Gateway" and add it to the PROFINET IO system by drag-and-drop. The IE/PB Link or IWLAN/PB Link is now configured as a PROFINET IO device.

Fig. 05

6 In the Properties dialog of the IE/PB Link or IWLAN/PB Link, you enter the device name and IP address that you have already assigned to the device.

Fig. 06

7 Configure the DP slaves on the PROFIBUS DP master system. In the example, an S7-300 CPU is configured as a DP slave.

Fig. 07

8 Save and compile the configuration. Then load the configuration into the PC station or into the controller if you are using an S7-300 or S7-400 as PROFINET IO controller.

Note:
Bear in mind that I slaves need to be configured separately.

9 Using an OPC client, you can now access the inputs and outputs on the PROFIBUS slave via PROFINET IO.

Fig. 08

Note:
Make sure that the inputs and outputs are reversed. If you write to output byte 0 in the slave, input byte 0 must be queried in the OPC client in order to obtain the data.

PN IO.zip ( 502 KB )

Note:
If you want to use an IE/PB Link configured as a gateway as PROFINET IO device, then you must first reset the IE/PB Link to the factory settings via the NCM diagnostics (special diagnostics) before configuring it as PROFINET IO device.
It is not possible to reset in the SIMATIC Manager via the menu "PLC > Edit Ethernet Node...".

How to configure your IWLAN/PB link or IE/PB link as a gateway:

No. Procedure
1 Use STEP 7 or NCM PC to create a new project with a PC station.
2 Open the hardware configuration of the PC station. Insert the OPC server and an IE network card into the PC station by drag-and-drop (see Fig. 03).
3 In the SIMATIC Manager, assign a device name and IP address to the IE/PB Link or IWLAN/PB Link via the menu "PLC > Edit Ethernet Node..." (see Fig. 02).
4 Insert a SIMATIC S7-300 as new object in the project.
5 Open the hardware configuration of the SIMATIC S7-300 station.
6 Do not insert a rack, but select the IE/PB Link or IWLAN/PB Link in the hardware catalog under "SIMATIC 300 - Gateway". Add the device directly to slot 0 by drag-and-drop.
In the hardware configuration, enter the IP address already assigned and a PROFIBUS address for the IE/PB Link or IWLAN/PB Link.

Fig. 09

7 Configure all the devices and for the OPC server, configure the S7 connection in NetPro for data communication between PC station and S7-300 station connected to the PROFIBUS. We configure a single, unilaterally configured connection in this example.
Specify the S7-300 CPU as the OPC server's connection partner.

Fig. 10

8 Load all the configurations into the controller, PC station and into the IE/PB Link or IWLAN/PB Link.
9 You can then access the data of the devices on the PROFIBUS with an OPC client via the configured S7 connection.

STEP 7 project:

S7_Connection.zip ( 485 KB )

Note:
If you want to use and configure an IE/PB Link configured as PROFINET IO device as a gateway, then you must first reset the IE/PB Link to the factory settings via the NCM diagnostics (special diagnostics) before configuring it as gateway.
It is not possible to reset in the SIMATIC Manager via the menu "PLC > Edit Ethernet Node...".
