1. SIMATIC WinCC/Web Navigator V6.2 - What's new?

With Version 6.2, new functionalities are introduced. They are:

  • Support of Windows Server 2003 R2

  • Support of the WinCC option SIMATIC Logon

  • Improved integration into WinCC Basic

1.1 Support of Windows Server 2003 R2

Starting with the Web Navigator V6.2, the operation under Windows Server 2003 R2 is released on the server-side as well as the client-side (in addition to the previously released operating systems). A release under Windows 2000 Server is currently not available. The release of Windows 2000 Server will be communicated separately following testing to be performed.

1.2 Support of the WinCC Option SIMATIC Logon

With the Web Navigator V6.2, the integration into the central, system-wide user administration with SIMATIC Logon V1.3 is possible.

1.3 Improved Integration into WinCC Basic

1.3.1 Global C Variables

Within WinCC functions and actions, it is possible to define global C variables. Analog to the basic system, global C variables can also be used on the Web client beginning with the Web Navigator V6.2.

1.3.2 Integration of Header Files

Own header files can be integrated into C scripts for the declaration of constants, data types, variables and functions. Screens utilizing their own header files in C scripts can now also be displayed on the Web client without requiring adaptations.

 1.3.3 Standard Functions

In WinCC, user-defined standard functions can be created that are known throughout the project. Beginning with the Web Navigator V6.2, user-defined standard functions are displayed in the Web View Publisher and can thus be enabled for use on the Web client.

1.3.4 Indirect Addressing

Within WinCC screens, attributes of screen objects can be made dynamic indirectly. In doing so, attributes are made dynamic with the contents of the referenced tags. WinCC screens utilizing the indirect addressing can now be posted on the Web without modifications.

1.3.5 Computer-local Tags

At the properties of internal tags, their updating can be set as computer-local or project-wide. With the Web Navigator V6.2, these settings are also utilized on the Web client, resulting in each client possessing its own computer-local tags. It becomes thereby possible, for example, to determine the user currently logged onto the Web client.

1.3.6 Server Views from Basic Process Control

Server views within the scope of the process control functions and display possibilities from the Basic Process Control are now also supported on the Web client.

1.3.7 Absolute Screen Name and Path in C Scripts

On the Web client - analog to the WinCC basic system - the absolute screen name and the complete path are now returned in C scripts for corresponding functions and parameters. Thus, scripts can be run without adaptations on the Web client.

2. Updates/Upgrades and Compatibility to older Web Navigator Versions

Upgrades for the last major release V1.x to V6.2 are available in the corresponding client count. To upgrade the Web Navigator V6 to the Web Navigator V6.2, a separate upgrade package is offered, which is independent of the particular client count.

2.1 Web Navigator Server
Older Web Navigator versions can be upgraded to V6.2. In doing so, the old Web Navigator is first deinstalled and then the Web Navigator V6.2 installed.

2.2 Web Navigator Client
The Web server checks the version compatibility between server and client and, if required, automatically installs the corresponding client component. This means:

  • An 'old' Web client Vx.y encounters a current Web server V6.2 -> Current Web client V6.2 automatically installs itself
  • A current Web client V6.2 encounters an 'old' Web server Vx.y -> Communication will continue to function, but with the function scope of Vx.y
