Operation of RFID Systems via Communication Module RF 180C (PROFINET RT) on Windows-based Systems
SIEMENS RFID publications often focus on connecting write/read devices (SLGs) to PLC controllers S7-300/400. The hardware connection is realized via interface modules (ASMs) and the software connection via function blocks. The connection can be made centrally (e.g. via ASM 475, pluggable in S7-300/ ET 200M) or via a bus system (e.g. ASM 456 for PROFIBUS DP-V1 or RF180C for PROFINET IO).
Less familiar, however, is how to connect RFID systems directly to a Windows-based PC by means of connection modules RF 180C via PROFINET IO and how to write on and read from them by means of a C++ application transponder (MDS).
The following picture shows the content of this example.
Using the tools and structures provided by SIMATIC NET you define a "PC station" on your Windows-based system. Using the STEP7 or NCM PC tools, which provide the SIMATIC Manager and the HW Config tool, you configure the software for your hardware configuration. The PC configuration is handled by the station manager. You define your PROFINET IO interface and RFID application via its "Station Component Editor" – comparable with the hardware type plugging of modules in a module rack.
The C++ application which provides an operator user interface for describing and reading the transponder and controls the telegram traffic between PC and ASM, is available as compiled runnable PNIO_RFID.exe file and as open source code. As a user you can use the source program as a basis for your RFID application and adjust it to your individual requirements – appropriate C++ knowledge assumed.
