The products listed under chapter 2 below (Ordering data) are herewith released for delivery by A&D SC IC.

1. Product description

The range of accessories for Industrial Wireless LAN in the fields of antennas, lightning protectors and antenna cables has been innovated and expanded. In our range of accessories, the R-SMA connector will be replaced by the more robust N-Connect connector.

Note: This change applies only to accessories and not the SCALANCE W products.
Here, the R-SMA connector will be retained for reasons of space.

All products are neutral or have a Siemens label. A terminating resistor is supplied in each case, so that the second antenna connection (antenna diversity!) can be closed off with respect to HF signals if only one antenna is used. All directional antennas include a mounting tool for optimal adjustment in the case of large distances, in their scope of supply. In contrast to earlier IWLAN antenna versions the antenna cable is no longer fixed to the antenna, so that the customer has more flexibility in the selection of the required cable length.

These new accessories have already been released for operation with SCALANCE W devices for adverse climatic conditions (Access Points W786-1PRO, W786-2PRO, W786-3PRO) and also the versions from the W-784 product family (W784-1, W784-1RR, W744-1, W746-1, W747-1). Operation with these new antennas has also been approved for the products from the hardware redesign of W-788.

Details are described in the catalog attachment under http://www.automation.siemens.com/net/html_76/support/zusatzinfo.htm

Note: More countries will follow in due course.

Names convention for antennas

w = 2 / 3 / 5:    Frequency range 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz / Dual band (2.4 and 5 GHz)

x = 4 / 6 / 8:    Measure for passive gain (no direct relation to the gain in the data sheet)

y = M / D:       Omni (circular beam) / Directional

z = N / R / S:   N-Connect / R-SMA / R-SMA variable angle

Example: ANT792-8DN (2 GHz, high gain, directional, N-Connect)

Antenna cables

This range was already introduced for IWLAN RCoax and has not been innovated, except that some lengths have been added. In addition to the 1m and 5m lengths for N-Connect male/male extensions, 2m and 10m are now also available. The same goes for the N-Connect/R-SMA extensions: 2m and 10m are now available in addition to 1m and 5m. The extension cable for the R-SMA/SMA male/male switchboard bushing is now available in 0.3m and in 2m length.

3. Application

Separately mounted antennas optimize transmission and reception conditions and thus enable the use of IWLAN products in many industrial applications. Directional antennas can provide accurate radio coverage along conveyor lines or corridors, or implement point-to-point connections across many hundreds of meters. An omnidirectional antenna, on the other hand, concentrates the radio field around the antenna approximately in disk shape for best allround reception. The extension cables facilitate mounting of separate antennas. The switchboard bushing permits a connection between antenna and a switchboard-mounted device. Lightning protectors enable outdoor mounting of antennas without any problems.

Each additional cable means additional damping and thus a reduction of the signal level at the receiver.

4. Miscellaneous
The user manuals are supplied with the products, but as usual they can also be downloaded online via http://support.automation.siemens.com .
