EPLAN Electric P8 macros for SIMOTION C, P and D / DXF files

EPLAN Electric P8 is an CAE system to engineer electrical plants and systems (e.g. control cabinets). It supports the design engineer when engineering, documenting and managing projects. Using EPLAN Electric P8, customers create circuit diagrams of the control cabinet, manage the parts master data, automatically generate parts lists, terminal diagrams, PLC diagrams and overview diagrams, generate documentation for the plant/system and carry out the mechanical design of the control cabinet.

Especially more complex devices (e.g. controllers and frequency converters) are not available in EPLAN as standard symbol. As a consequence, users must create these themselves as macros. Macros allow users to define frequently used modules (parts of circuits, graphic elements, etc.) of their projects as macro. These are then saved and can be reused as often as required.

Providing EPLAN Electric P8 macros in the .edz format helps customers significantly reduce their engineering time.

In order to keep the costs associated with integrating data into the EPLAN system as low as possible, it must be simple and quick to import data.
For this reason Siemens requested that EPLAN introduce a new file format (.edz file), which provides a file with all of the required information for every order number. This means that an .edz file is a type of archive for master parts data, macros and other CAx data. A macro in the edz format contains the following data:
