Introduction
In some cases, it might be necessary to reset WinCC flexible to the status immediately after installation. For example, it might happen that various windows (Tools windows, for example) are no longer displayed properly. If this behavior occurs, one option is to delete the cache of WinCC flexible.

Description
Proceed as follows to delete the cache of WinCC flexible.

WinCC flexible 2004/ WinCC flexible 2005/ WinCC flexible 2007
WinCC flexible 2008

WinCC flexible 2004/ WinCC flexible 2005/ WinCC flexible 2007
You reset the WinCC Flexible ES as follows for the versions WinCC flexible 2004, WinCC flexible 2005 and WinCC flexible 2007.

  1. Close WinCC flexible.
  2. Terminate the running processes "Hmies.exe" and "HmiSmartStart.exe" in the "TaskManager".
  3. If the following directories exist, delete the entire contents (alternatively you can also back up the contents).

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SIEMENS AG\SIMATIC WinCC flexible 2007
    C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Application Data\SIEMENS AG\SIMATIC WinCC flexible 2007
    C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Local Settings\Application Data\SIEMENS AG\SIMATIC WinCC flexible 2007

  4. Start WinCC flexible 2007 and create a new project.

Notes
The path might be different if you have installed WinCC flexible or the operating system on a different partition.
When you delete the contents of the "Temp" folder, there might be problems, for instance, if files are being accessed at the time. Delete as many files as possible.
After a reset, the startup of WinCC flexible takes a little longer, because the ES has to be reinitialized completely.
You can also use the "Hmies.exe -reset -new" command to reset the versions WinCC flexible 2005 and WinCC flexible 2007.

WinCC flexible 2008
As from the version WinCC flexible 2008 you have the "Reset SIMATIC WinCC flexible" option in the "SIMATIC WinCC flexible Start Center". This resets WinCC flexible to the original status of the last installation.
