QUESTION:

Does ATEX approval for use in hazardous zones apply to 3SB3 pushbuttons and indicator lights?

ANSWER:

The 3SB3 command devices can be used in intrinsically safe circuits in all hazardous zones (0, 1, 2, 20, 21, 22).
3SB3 is not permitted to be used in hazardous zones without an intrinsically safe circuit.

Certificates 2689 and 2690 confirm that

Ø  the 3SB30, 3SB31, 3SB35 actuators, 3SB34 contact blocks, 3SB38 empty enclosures and

Ø  the lampholders (3SB34..-1A) with LED (3SB3901-1.A, base BA9s) 24 V AC/DC

are according to the requirements of DIN EN 60079-11:2007, para. 5.7: "Simple apparatus". These devices are classified as simple electrical devices according to directive 94/9/EC (ATEX directive) and ATEX guidelines, para. 5.2.1 and can be used in this way.

The mentioned devices may be used in intrinsically safe circuits. They are therefore classified to temperature class T4 (max. surface temperature of equipment 135 °C).

The devices do not include sources of stored energy.

They can be used as "simple apparatus" in all hazardous zones.

This also applies if the devices are used in 3SB38 enclosures, or non-Siemens enclosures without ATEX approval.
