SIMOTION Roll Feed (SimoRoll)

Using the appropriate equipment and devices, the standard SimoRoll application in SIMOTION allows roll feed functionality to be implemented in presses – for example, mechanical excentric presses, hydraulic, pneumatic presses as well as servopresses.

Task:

The roll feed function in SIMOTION was developed with the objective of being able to address a large percentage of the roll feed functionality using a single configuration. As a result of the openness of the application, it is possible, when required, to configure the application or, if required, modify it.

 

Solution:

General structure and design:


The feed solution generally comprises a pair of rolls, an upper and lower roll. These are mechanically coupled and driven by a servomotor.

The task is to transport the sheet metal into the tool (die) of the forming machine within a specified time window. The time is specified by the feed angle.

The feed angle is derived from the leading value encoder of the press, and starts in the upwards motion of the press. The end of the feed angle is in the downwards motion of the press before the die starts to close.

This angle is made available to the roll feed as cam signal. Feed motion is started when the cam signal changes from 0 to 1 – and must have been completed before the signal changes from 1 to 0. A second option is to use camming instead of a feed cam. In this case, the feed angle and feed length must also be specified. A cam is calculated based on this data, and the maximum values of velocity, acceleration and jerk.

Generally, the dynamic requirements placed on feed applications are very high. The reason for this is that the feed time is a significant parameter when considering the press stroke rate, and therefore directly influences the production yield of the machine.
