How do you do a fail-safe switch-off of standard modules?

You can do a fail-safe switch-off of various SIMATIC standard modules. This entry shows which modules apply here.

Description
In the product-related tables given below you will find SIMATIC standard modules for which you can do a fail-safe switch-off. Only the modules listed in these tables may be used for applications in which you are to do a fail-safe switch-off of SIMATIC standard modules.

The listed modules have no safety function. The safety function is triggered by the higher-level safety relay. This puts or holds the system in a safe state. You should follow the safety notes of the safety relay used accordingly.   

The following holds for a potential group in which the listed modules are located (except in the case of ET 200AL):
You may not use any additional standard digital input modules, standard analog input modules, counter modules etc. You must install a separate potential group for these.

Notes

  • Requirements for the power supply:
    For operation, you need a power supply to master overvoltages at P and M (24V). This also masters any possible common cause errors on the power supply side.
    You should select the power supply unit according to the specifications in the corresponding operating instructions for the switch-off device or system concerned.
    Detailed information about protective extra low voltages (SELV/PELV) is available in the data sheets of the power supplies to be used.
  • Plants with fail-safe features are subject to special requirements regarding operating safety on the operator's side.

4. ET 200AL

The modules listed in the following table (IM, DI, DQ, DIQ, AI and IO-Link) can be used mixed in load groups in one supply line (potential group for the load power supply 2L+). You can do a fail-safe shut-off of the outputs of the output modules. The modules marked with "non-interacting" are not in fact switched off, but can be integrated in the current path of the output modules to be switched off.

The IO-Link master module is a special case. The IO-Link supply of the IO-Link devices is "non-interacting". Here you can do a fail-safe switch-off of the additional load supply. This ensures that the IO-Link communication with the IO-Link device continues if there is a switch-off.

7. ET 200S

If the power supply is switched off safely, the "non-interacting" PM-Es remain active on the ET 200S backplane bus and can be used when shutting off the standard modules listed below. Furthermore, the listed standard modules can be switched off safely via PROFIsafe and PM-E F.
