The reason for the change are the following functional expansions:          




Routing means access to a sub-network (another network connected to an MPI  

network; this can be both MPI and Ethernet). A V5.0 PC adapter connected to 

an MPI network can access a subnetwork. STEP 7 V5 supports the routing      



DP/T protocol:                                                              


The PC adapter now also supports the DP/T protocol with which the FM 353    

and FM 354 (cat. no. 6ES7 353-1AH01-0AE0, 6ES7 354-1AH01-0AE0) function     

modules can be accessed and parameterized.                                  


Additional 19.2 Kbit/s baud rate for MPI:                                   


If S7-200 CPUs are connected to an MPI network, the baud rate must be set   

to 19.2 kbaud. The default setting of the V5.0 PC adapter is 187.5 Kbit/s.  

To connect the V5.0 adapter to an MPI network with 19.2 Kbit/s the baud     

rate must be set with STEP 7. The V5.0 PC adapter can now communicate with  

baud rates of 19.2 Kbit/s, 187.5 Kbit/s and 1.5 Mbit/s.                     


MPI/DP co-existence:                                                        


The adapter can also be connected to CPUs having only an MPI/DP co-existence

interface and no MPI interface. Such CPUs will become available as of       

March 1999. The V5.0 PC adapter can also be operated on PROFIBUS interfaces.

However, due to the physical limitations of the adapter interface, the max. 

baud rate is limited to 1.5 Mbit/s.                                         


Existing PC adapters cannot be upgraded because the new functions rely on   

the new modified hardware.
