SIMATIC WinAC RTX is particularly suited for tasks where high flexibility and effective integration into the overall function are required. This includes a close connection to data processing or logistic systems, as well as the connection to technological tasks, e.g. motion or vision systems.

SIMATIC WinAC RTX offers strict realtime with high performance. The optimized runtime system allows processing of extensive and sophisticated PC applications in parallel with the control task. The high performance of WinAC RTX also allows implementation of fast control solutions with a low microprocessor load. Users can now select more cost-effective PC platforms for the same task, or run additional tasks on the same PC. WinAC RTX is thus optimized for operation on embedded PC platforms such as the S7-modular Embedded Controller, SIMATIC IPC427C or SIMATIC HMI IPC477C. With their diskless and fanless design, these platforms provide significantly higher robustness for the automation task. SIMATIC PCs with integral, non-volatile memory enable saving up to 128 KByte of retentive data in the case of a voltage failure, independently of the file system. The I/Os are connected via the leading PROFIBUS or PROFINET fieldbus standards. With S7-mEC, EC31, it is also possible to use S7-300 I/Os in a centralized configuration. Support of the integral PROFIBUS or PROFINET interfaces of SIMATIC PCs as well as the improved performance, lead to an excellent price/performance ratio for PC-based automation.

SIMATIC WinAC RTX is supplemented by the WinAC ODK for expansion of the PLC functionality with application-specific high-level language applications. WinAC ODK allows:

Safety Integrated with WinAC RTX F 2010

WinAC RTX F is a Windows XP or XPembeded-based software controller and part of the portfolio of SIMATIC Safety Integrated as evaluation unit. With SIMATIC Safety Integrated the evaluation unit consists of failsafe controllers and failsafe I/O modules. Failsafe communication is via the PROFIsafe profile and is supported by WinAC RTX F over PROFIBUS and PROFINET. The safety-related part of the user program is created with the S7 Distributed Safety software option V5.4 SP5 and higher and can be loaded to the software controller in parallel with standard STEP 7 programs. S7 Distributed Safety offers commands, operations and software blocks to implement failsafe programs in F-LAD and F-FBD. A library with ready-made blocks for safety-related functions up to SIL 3 is available for this purpose. The programs generated in this way can be used both for failsafe modular controllers and for the failsafe WinAC RTX F. WinAC RTX F 2010 has the standard features of WinAC RTX 2010.

Windows 7

Windows 7 is the new operating system standard of Microsoft. Windows 7 provides a range of improvements also for industrial applications:

Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate 32 Bit are supported.

PROFINET: Isochronous mode

WinAC RTX (F) 2010 supports isochronous processing of the OB61/62 at the PROFINET clock pulse rate. This enables very fast and exactly deterministic response times, or high-level closed-loop control tasks via PROFINET IO. Isochronous mode cycle times down to 250 µs can be achieved.

Isochronous mode necessitates a CP1616/1604 or corresponding integrated PROFINET interface of the SIMATIC IPC or S7-mEC, EC31.

SIMATIC Web Server

WinAC RTX (F) 2010 includes the SIMATIC Web Server for maintenance and diagnostic purposes. The Web server is accessible via the PROFINET interface (submodule) allocated to WinAC RTX (F).

Note: unlike with S7-300/400, user-defined websites will not be possible with WinAC RTX (F) 2010.

Open User Communication with ISO on TCP

In addition to the TCP and UDP protocols, the ISOonTCP protocol (RFC1006) will also be supported via the PROFINET interface (submodule) allocated to WinAC RTX (F).

PROFINET IP Config

PROFINET IP Config enables runtime changing of the IP address, subnet screenform and "Name of Station" of the PROFINET interface used by WinAC RTX (F), by means of the PLC user program. The new system function SFC104 "IP_CONF" is used for this purpose.

This function is particularly useful if the PROFINET interface of WinAC RTX (F) serves for networking with other controllers or plant sections. The change of the IP configuration can thus be adapted dynamically to the requirements of the machine or plant, without having to make changes to the STEP7 project.

Support of Data Record Gateway for online functions with PROFIBUS Standard Slaves on a CP5611

WinAC RTX (F) 2010 supports online functions such as configuration or diagnosis with PROFIBUS standard slaves via the CP 5611 or the onboard PROFIBUS interfaces of the SIMATIC IPCs. The parameterization and diagnosis tool of the standard slave can run on the Windows page or on one of the engineering PCs connected via the Windows-Ethernet interface. The Data Record Gateway can be used by the following tools, for instance:

  • Parameterization and diagnostic tools for 3rd party slaves, connected to STEP7 via the Tool Calling Interface (TCI).
  • Parameterization and diagnosis of sensors and actuators, connected via IO Link modules

WinAC RTX (F) 2010 is reverse compatible with WinAC RTX (F) 2009. The following topics should be noted when using WinAC RTX (F) 2010:

  • Current IntervalZero RTX 2009 SP2real-time core
    WinAC RTX (F) 2010 makes use of the latest version of the IntervalZero RTX 2009 SP2 real-time core to ensure operation under Windows 7. Incompatibilities with the previous versions for WinAC ODK applications have not been reported, but we nevertheless recommend to test existing real-time ODK applications before use with WinAC RTX (F) 2010.
  • Setting: "Prevent switch-over of the processor clock frequency" (only WinAC RTX 2010)
    SIMATIC IPCs are configured such, that the "SpeedStep" feature of the microprocessor used is disabled upon delivery and the PC therefore will not reduce the processor clock frequency, depending on the computing load. For this reason the preset in the WinAC RTX features pages "Prevent switch-over of the processor clock frequency" has been changed to permit a meaningful indication of the processor load for Windows applications. When you run WinAC RTX on PCs where the response with regard to changing the processor frequency is not available, we recommend to enable the feature "Prevent switch-over of the processor clock frequency" again.     With WinAC RTX F 2010 the setting will be retained the same as the previous version.
  • Change of CMI interface of the WinAC ODK to specify Tuning Parameters
    With WinAC RTX (F) 2010 the time in the CMI features "MinCycleTime", "MinSleepTime" and "Timing" is specified in microseconds (µsec) instead of in milliseconds (msec), in order to enable a more accurate setting or representation of these parameters. Existing CMI applications must therefore be suitably adapted for WinAC RTX (F) 2010.

Compatibility with WinAC ODK V4.2

WinAC RTX (F) 2010 was equipped with the current version of the IntervalZero RTX 2009 SP2 (V9.1.2) real-time core. The development of real-time ODK applications therefore requires IntervalZero RTX SDK 2009. This has resulted in the following important changes for real-time ODK applications:

  • No support anymore of development with Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0
  • Full support incl. debugging for Microsoft Visual Studio 2008

Compatibility of SIMATIC WinAC RTX F 2010 with SIMATIC IPC6x7C and IPC8x7C

To run WinAC RTX F 2010 on these PCs the "High Precision Event Timer" (HPET) must be disabled. This possibility will be available with new BIOS versions for these PCs. The following BIOS versions are needed:

  • SIMATIC Box PC:  IPC627C, IPC827C: BIOS version V15.02.03 or higher
  • SIMATIC Panel PC:  HMI IPC677C: BIOS version V15.02.03 or higher
  • SIMATIC Rack PC IPC647C, IPC847C: BIOS version V15.01.03 or higher

These BIOS versions are planned to be available by end of November 2010.

Compatibility with SIMATIC S7-mEC, EC31

To run WinAC RTX (F) 2010 on the SIMATIC S7-mEC, EC31, the following should be noted:

  • S7-mEC, EC31, 1st generation (6ES7 677-1DD00...):

Compatibility with SIMATIC S7

The PROFINET implementation corresponds to the functionality of the integrated PROFINET interfaces of the current SIMATIC S7 CPUs. The following differences exist:

  • No support for the operation of WinAC RTX (F) as PROFINET IO iDevice. (However, WinAC RTX (F) 2010 can drive other PROFINET iDevices)
  • No support of the Data Record Gateway with the CP 5603, CP 5613 or CP 5623

Additional differences with the new stages of the SIMATIC S7 products:
