BSP SIMATIC IPC V3.1 for RMOS3 Released for Delivery

The Board Support Package BSP-SIMATIC IPC V3.1 for the proven RMOS3 real-time and multi-tasking operating system now also supports the current C-generation SIMATIC IPCs. In adition to a new USB2.0 stack and a new Ethernet driver, the expanded configurable nucleus now supports up to 4 processor cores in symmetrical multi-processing mode.

The BSP-SIMATIC IPC V3.1 is now available for delivery.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Board Support Package BSP-SIMATIC IPC V3.1 supports the B and C-generation SIMATIC IPCs. The changes in comparison to the existing version BSP-SIMATIC IPC V3.0 are highlighted in bold letters below.

The BSP-SIMATIC IPC V3.1 now also supports the current C-generation SIMATIC IPCs and the SIMATIC IPC627C, IPC647C and IPC847C have been added. In addition to a new Gigabit Ethernet driver and a new USB2.0 stack, up to 4 processor cores can now be run in symmetrical multi-processing mode. Furthermore, the PROFINET onboard functionalities, PROFIBUS, CAN, as well as hardware-related functions, are now available under the RMOS3 realtime operating system V3.40 and higher for SIMATIC IPCs. An online help system and Code Completion for the Eclipse development environment are available for creation of applications with PROFINET, PROFIBUS, CAN and the hardware-related functions (RMOS3-GNU V2.1 and higher).

The BSP-SIMATIC IPC V3.1 now supports the following robust and long-term available SIMATIC PCs and SIMATIC IPCs:

  • Microbox PC 427B and IPC427C
  • Box PC 627B and IPC627C
  • Box PC 827B and IPC827C (in preparation)
  • Rack 647B and IPC647C
  • Rack PC 847B and IPC847C.

The configurable nucleus has been expanded to support the new C-generation SIMATIC IPCs and - where necessary - will now load the drivers for the onboard USB2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, PROFINET IO, PROFIBUS DP, CAN-Bus interfaces and the diagnostic driver for hardware-related functions.

The PROFINET onboard interfaces of the SIMATIC IPCs provide a variety of options for the integration of real-time solutions with SIMATIC IPCs in PROFINET networks. PROFINET RT (Real-Time) and PROFINET IRT (Isochronous Real-Time) in the operating modes IRT with high flexibility and IRT with high performance are supported, with cycle times down to 250µs and a jitter accuracy of better than 1µs.

The configurable nucleus furthermore enables use of the following functions:

  • up to two CompactFlash cards , SIMATIC CF Cards, also with S.M.A.R.T. monitoring
  • battery-backed SRAM with up to 2 MB for retentive data
  • control of freely programmable user LEDs
  • enhanced diagnostic functions for battery, temperature and fan monitoring
  • functions for use of the Watchdog.
  • operation-hour counter
  • HD monitoring with S.M.A.R.T.

To be able to use the Eclipse development environment from the RMOS3-GNU V2.1 development package, the C/C++ programmer is provided with all functions of the PROFINET, PROFIBUS, CAN-Bus and Hardware Diagnosis programming interfaces in the form of an online help system and Code Completion. The PROFINET function interface in this case is identical to the calls described in the programming manual of the SIMATIC NET CP16xx  "SIMATIC NET IO-Base User Programming Interface".

Hardware-related functions, diagnostic and monitoring functions

  • Interrupt-sharing on the PCI bus generally enabled for safe connection of PCI cards
  • Enhanced temperature monitoring function for direct influencing of the automation process if a pre-determined limiting temperature is exceeded. Depending on the sensors supported by the SIMATIC IPCs, the temperature of the CPU, the power supply, the housing, the memory and the main board can be determined.
  • Fan monitoring function (Box PC 627B, Box PC 827B, Rack PC 647B, Rack PC 847B, IPC627C, IPC647C and IPC847C) to controll the fan speed of the housing fan (front and rear), power supply fan and hard disk fan. If the speed is too low the automation process can be directly influenced and the operation disply LED "FAN" (Rack PC 847B, Rack PC 647B, IPC647C and IPC847C) set.
  • Battery monitoring function (Microbox PC 427B, Box PC 627B, Box PC 827B, Rack PC 647B, Rack PC 847B, IPC427C, IPC627C, IPC647C and IPC847C) for identification of the loading status of the CMOS battery and to signal the need for battery replacement.
  • Watchdog function (Microbox PC 427B,  Box PC 627B, Box PC 827B, Rack PC 647B, Rack PC 847B, IPC427C, IPC627C, IPC647C and IPC847C) to indicate program failures
  • Interface to user LEDs of all CPUs (Rack PC 647B, Rack PC 847B, IPC647C and IPC847C: 3x red, Box PC 627B, Box PC 827B and  IPC627C: 2x red/green, Microbox PC 427B and IPC427C: 1x yellow/red and 1x yellow/green) to indicate status signals.
  • Access to two-digit 7-segment display (Box PC 627B, Box PC 827B, IPC647C) for startup indication and output of applications for diagnostic purposes.

NOTES ON THE USE OF THE BSP SIMATIC PC V3.11

  • The BSP SIMATIC PC V3.1 must be purchased as an option for RMOS3 V3.40 and has been released for use with SICOMP RMOS3 version V3.40 and higher. The Board Support Packages are available in the form of Engineering Licenses as workstation licenses under Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7, and Runtime Licenses for use on a target system under RMOS3.
  • The RMOS3-GNU V3.0 development platform must be employed if you wish to use the Engineering Licenses under Windows Vista and Windows 7.
  • The BSP SIMATIC PC V3.1 replaces the existing Board Support Package BSP SIMATIC PC V3.0. An update to the BSP SIMATIC PC V3.1 is available.
  • The optional drives listed in the configurator: DVD-ROM, DVD-ROM/CD-RW, DVD +/- RW, CD-R/RW/DVD (combo), as well as RAID, are presently not supported under RMOS3.
