QUESTION:
How can I import CSV files again with EasyLanguage after they have been edited with Excel?

ANSWER:
Sometimes EasyLanguage can no longer import CSV files after they have been edited with Excel. The causes are as follows:

You have opened the CSV file with a double-click or via pop-up menu ->"Open".

In this case Excel reads the file without considering hyphenations.
The information is not displayed in columns. Now, when you save the file, Excel saves the entries in the CSV file with quotes:

"[Header];;;;;;;"
"Language file exported: 12/02/99 11:10:54;;;;;;;"
"[Project];;;;;;;"
"D:\Alex\TestFolder\temp\temp.MCP;;;;;;;"
"[Languages];;;;;;;"
"German;1031;;;;;;"
"[Pictures];;;;;;;"
"Printer2.Pdl;;;;;;;"
etc.
The result is that EasyLanguage can no longer read the file.

Remedy:
Do not open the CSV files with a double-click or via pop-up menu.

  1. Open Excel.
  2. Go to "File"->"Open"
  3. Set the text files (*.ptr;*.txt;*.csv) as data type.
  4. Open the CSV file.

Now when you save the file, Excel saves the file without quotes in the following form:

[Header];;;;;;;
Language file exported: 12/02/99 11:10:54;;;;;;
[Project];;;;;;;
D:\Alex\TestFolder\temp\temp.MCP;;;;;;;
[Languages];;;;;;;
German;1031;;;;;;
[Pictures];;;;;;;
Printer2.Pdl;;;;;;;

You are using WinCC up to V4.02

Up to WinCC V4.02 EasyLanguage cannot import the files saved by Excel. This is because of the semicolons that Excel inserts when saving:
[Header];;;;;;;
Language file exported: 12/02/99 11:10:54;;;;;;
etc.

Remedy:

  1. Open the CSV file saved with Excel with Notepad.
  2. Delete the semicolons inserted by Excel.
    The header of the CSV file should then look like this:
  3.

    [Header]

    Language file exported: 02/11/98 09:03:36

    [Project]

    C:\DemoV4\DemoV4.mcp

    [Languages]

    German;1031

    English;1033

  4. Save the changes.
  5. Import the CSV file again.

As of WinCC V4.02 EasyLanguage can import the file.
